7 year old Marinette dupain-cheng woke up to a cold winter morning, getting out
of bed her little feet touched the cool stone flooring making her legs numb and her body shiver. Yawning, she opened her curtains to let the sunlight in only to be greeted by a gloomy sky and droplets of rain splattering against her window. She made her way downstairs expecting to be met by her parents prepping the ovens for gooey chocolate cookies and soft buttery croissants to open the bakery, only to be met by silence. Her grandmother sat on the kitchen counter looking old and worn as if she'd seen much better days, the normal playful glint in her eyes replaced by a dull ache.Prologue
