"Psst."
The 7 year old Connor turned to see a small auburn girl leaning over her desk to whisper to him. He ignored the little girl, looking away from her. "Psst!" She said, more aggressively this time and staring him down now having turned to look at him. Connor was getting more annoyed. "PSST!!" She hissed, kicking the leg of his chair and desk.
"What do you want?!" Connor exclaimed, turning to look at her with an annoyed and agitated glare. She flinched a bit at his sudden loud yelling, but before she could continue they were interrupted. "No talking in time out." The 3rd grade teacher said, the pair of 2nd graders nodded but the girl leaned closer to be quiet.
"Are you the kid who threw the printer at Mrs. G.?"
"Yeah...what's it to you?" Connor grunted, balling his hands into fists. A small smile spread across her face as he spoke. "What are you smiling at?" He glared at her, assuming she was about to make fun of him.
"She's the reason I'm in here too, so I'm not complaining she'll have a substitute for awhile." She giggled, Connor felt a small smile spreading on his lips. But he kept his grumpy expression, yet he couldn't stop himself from asking the question. "What did you do?" He wondered, leaning over to prevent the teacher from hearing them. She paused, looking over at the man who was distracted.
"She caught me stealing a jar of frogs from the 8th grade biology room."
"Why would you steal a jar of frogs?" Connor chuckled, relaxing and starting to be more friendly towards the girl. She shrugged, picking up her desk and moving it a couple inches closer to his. "I wanted to see what frogs really look like." Connor burst into laughter at this, causing the teacher to slam his book on the table.
"What did I say?"
"You're weird." Connor whispered, she rolled her eyes swinging her legs under the desk. "Says the guy who threw a printer at his teacher." She joked in an equally hushed tone, he chuckled quietly and nodded.
"Alex Reeves." She smiled, offering a hand for him to shake. He ignored it, and punched her in the arm causing her to flinch. "Connor Murphy." Alex nodded, punching him back with a smile.
"Connor, your parents are in the office to talk about the...incident." The pair turned to see another teacher in the classroom doorway staring at the boy. He glared at her, standing up from the desk and pounding his fist into it. But as he exited the classroom, he flashed Alex a small smile.
"Alex, your dad is here to discuss your...interesting adventure." The teacher also said, clearly confused by what she had done. Alex stood up and nodded, nearly skipping out the door by Connors' side.
And that was the beginning of one...strange friendship.
