When Kim Rok Soo was 20 years old, the world changed suddenly one day.
Monsters came into existence out of the blue and destroyed everything on sight. It was a terrifying thing that shook the world even though alongside them came strange superhuman powers that only some individuals unlocked.
But then it was all over.
Just as quickly as it had started and people wondered if it were all a dream . It would have been a 4 months at most and all the Monsters were cleared.
It made people wonder if it had all been just a bad dream?
But the people that died were still gone, buildings demolished , strange shelters and people with abilities still around and that made people paranoid.
Why the powers when there was nothing to fight?
Why shelters when there was no need?
Why didn't they disappear too?
Is something else coming?
They wondered and they feared.
In the end, it was that paranoia that saved them.
Those who became complacent died first when the undead arose, normal viruses mixing in with decaying Monsters made the new pandemic, it was brushed off as an allergy at first, only appearing in a select few people who all fought against the same Monster type and the most severe side effect seemed to be lost abilities, but paranoia made people wary and they connected the dots.
They wondered and waited. And passed the notion of something being wrong with them in hushed voices among themselves.
As it was, the cruelty of human nature saved them.
When people began turning, there was no hesitation in people already watching them and they shot there once saviors dead without regret.
It didn't kill them all off but saved a lot more people than under any other situation. Zombies became a constant in lives and people moved on.
Special forces made of ability users forming groups and organizations to scout out areas of outbreaks and control the situation as quickly as possibly.
If they were lucky the hordes would be of normal dumb Zombies. If they were unlucky then there would be Monsters mixed in or their worst nightmare, Zombies that retained their abilities.
The most deaths were caused by the Monsters that spawned unexpectedly, but super Zombies were dangerous because if not destroyed immediately they could start the pandemic all over again.
But humans were resilient creatures, they fought, they survived and they adapted.
By the time Kim Rok Soo joined the organization, everything was already settled, if you could call it that and the world was almost peaceful as long as people don't start wandering around on their own outside the safe zones.
There was normal land they could inhibit and there was the isolated places where Zombies had been pushed back into with special barriers and walls separating them.
And in case something happens and one is spotted inside, they were shot immediately.
This was very rare and only ever happened when a person from a soulmate pair got turned, taking down their other half with them.
Whatever it was that happened to the affected people, reached far beyond the body and into the link that connected them to their soulmate.
It was what caused most problems in the very beginning but soulmates were rare. So it was taken care of easily enough.
