SMASH!... My body is taking a beating. Kicks, punches, and even stomps. "Where's the money, Steven?!" Screeches one of my assaulters. I'm being beaten by 4 guys, but it's got nothing to do with me. My name is Steven... Steven Cooper. My friends just call me Steve. My lowly dad was a gambler, who went into many debts with bad people. He died of heart disease, probably because of his alcoholism. Those bad people, are now after me. They want me to pay his debt. It'd be fine if it was 100, even 200 dollars. My dad left me with his debt, of a whopping 200 grand. After getting my ass kicked for a while, the gang finally leaves. I keep getting assaulted for not having the money, it's gone on for almost a year. I work a 9-5 office job, so I can't make that kind of money anyways. I stand up, a little light headed and heavily bruised. My legs shake before I can get a proper footing. I hobble my way down the sparsely populated streets. Most people are in school or at work right now, but today was my day off. I couldn't even enjoy it. They ambushed me on my way to the store, and stole my little cash. I stopped carrying more than 100 dollars on me after the first few attacks. I pass by windows of shops and salons, making my way back home. As I'm looking at some of the local businesses, a small brown flyer catches my attention. I slowly approach it and read the printing on it. "Local science center on the verge of breakthrough, in need of test subject. Pay is included! Call [phone number] for more information." This is probably one of those shady scams. But honestly, I'd rather get some new mutation then get my ass kicked. I take the flyer and head home. After some time, I call the number. The phone rings, and then someone on the other end picks up. It's a cheery female voice. She sounds like your typical hot receptionist. "Hello, are you interested in our experiment?" She starts off. "Yeah, but before that, how much is the pay mentioned on the flyer?" I say this, half expecting something dumb like 50 bucks and a mint. "1 million dollars." She says, completely seriously. Even though she can't see my reaction, the shocked silence must be enough for her to get the idea, because shortly after she says, "I wouldn't blame you for being surprised. Come to science center and research facility, address is on back of the flyer if needed." She hung up after that. 1 million dollars...? That's enough to pay my dads debt AND have left over money! I obviously took this opportunity, as any sane man would. I made my way down the street, to the pretty nearby science center and research facility. Instead of walking in fear of being harassed, assaulted, and mugged, I walked with pep.  I don't care what limbs I have to sacrifice, I want that 1 mil. I stood in front of the gate to this huge ass building. This building is filled with smart people, and crazy bat shit goin on everywhere. I tried to act like I've done this 1000 times before, and stepped into the building. I was greeted with a white, tiled room with a receptionist desk. Behind the desk was a woman, wearing an office outfit. I knew she would be hot. "Hello sir, are you here for the experiment?" She said, obviously knowing there is no way I could be in a fucking science center otherwise. "Yes ma'am" I responded with a polite tone. She nodded and got out of her chair. She led me down a long, eerily white corridor. We stopped in front of a room, with double wooden doors. I stepped inside and she shut the doors behind me, retreating down the hallway. I turned my gaze to inside the room. Inside were 3 things that immediately caught my attention. A man, who appeared to be in his mid thirties, hastily writing on a clipboard. A large machine with incomprehensible aspects, this must be part of the experiment. A small poster in the corner hung, with blue and white blueprints; standard building stuff. They must belong to the large machine. Once the man finished his hasty writing, he approached me. He introduced himself, "Hello. My name is Sheldon. May I have your name?" He kept looking at his clipboard, I tried sneaking glances, but he'd move it. I think he's logging what I say, so I should word everything carefully. "My name is Steven, but please, call me Steve." I say this, trying to be formal and friendly. "You are here for the experiment?" He says, still focusing on his papers. "Yes sir, about that..." I say, in a skeptical voice. He looks up at me, actually noticing me. He sets down his clipboard. "Allow me to fill you in." He sits down at a small desk, browsing through his files. "We have discovered a new revolutionary technology, and believe we've unlocked the power to go to a new world, beyond our normal comprehension." I can't tell if it was the stunned silence emitting from me, or the perplexed expression, but he had to continue talking for it the situation to not be awkward. "That might sound crazy, but try to bare with me here. The machine that we use to transport people in and out of the dimension takes immense energy, so we can't waste trips. Now for the experiment..." he swivels in his chair, facing me like the absolute menace of a scientist he is. "You will go in that machine," he points at the large machine in the back center of the room, "and you'll set up. You'll get a special metal bracelet, and that will allow us to transport you in and out of the dimension. Once in, you'll spend 100 days in there. You have to log data, about everything you see. Even if it's normal, like tree, or water, just keep a record of it anyway." He pauses for a minute, letting me render a little bit of that information. "Once you return, you'll receive 1 million dollars in exchange for your data. Does that make sense?" Now, some people might find this crazy. 100 days in uncharted territory? Not to mention, what happens if the machine breaks while in there? But for me... this couldn't be a better offer. I would be free of my job, my dads debt, my no social life. It's like an oasis that I get to spend my days in. And that money... it's like each dollar is 10x worth it's actual value. "I'll take the offer. How about we get this set up?" I say that, ready to jump in the machine. I'll spare you the details, but we did NOT jump right in. Of course... he had to measure my height and weight, configure some settings, and take my vitals. After the medical examination, I finally stepped into the machine. I slipped my arm into a small slot. It made a small mechanical clicking noise, and that scared me shitless to be honest. Suddenly, I felt a cold, metal bracelet being clipped around my arm. "I-is this safe?" I said, a little hesitant. "Of course... I think." Sheldon flipped a lever and clicked some stuff. "Y-you think?!" I tried to open the door and confront him, but it was locked. "Don't worry, there a decent chance you'll live!" Those were the last words I heard, and my cursing was muffled by the intense whirring of the machine. My vision went stark white, then fading along with my consciousness.
