The Prince's Duty

" Prince should be in love with a princess, not a servant like him. But at the end of the day, Prince's heart still aches for Kyran's touch. "

A/N: This is completely fiction and may not be historically accurate to what being a royal is actually like.

What would you do when the love of your life was meant to hold one's hand that wasn't yours? Kyran wasn't sure himself. As he was serving plates in and out of the kitchen, he had to encounter Prince chatting happily with his future bride— Gold.

"How are you feeling, Prince?" Gold asked, her utensils clanging against the glass plate whilst she cut up the beef drenched with sauce. Prince let out a chuckle, his hand clasped softly against one another. "I'm quite well since you're here, dear," he exclaimed, his eyes never breaking away from hers.

From the sight of his blue eyes that stared deeply into hers, a flash of red began to dust against her cheeks. Her heart was thumping way faster than before, Prince really was a charmer.

"Clink!"

Before the two lovebirds could speak another word, a plate filled with savory goodness was set in front of Prince. Prince looked away from Gold to the servant who was serving him.

As Kyran put down Prince's plate in front of him, he couldn't help but admire him; especially when he was inches away from him. His arm could've easily brushed Prince's shoulder.

"Kyran!" Gold said, greeting him with a warm smile. "Good evening m'lady," Kyran bowed, "please, enjoy your meals."

"And I am deeply sorry for His Highness, as the chefs added too much salt in your meal."
"It's completely fine, nothing serious."

Without another word, Kyran's polished shoes creaked against the grass as his ears could no longer eavesdrop on the two's conversation. The whole time while he was exiting the garden, their laughs and chatters were echoing in the back of his mind.

He wished that Prince was sharing his laughter with him instead.

Between Prince and Kyran, there was no debate that Kyran loved Prince. He would always find excuses to help Prince out, even when it was not his necessity to do so. Kyran just wanted to be near the man he loved, it wasn't wrong, was it?

It was wrong. It was against the rules. Prince should be in love with a princess, not a servant like him. But at the end of the day, Prince's heart still aches for Kyran's touch.

While he was chatting with his soon to be bride, Kyran kept wandering around his mind. It was as if he was renting his mind as a place to stay. Prince could never get rid of him, even if he wanted to. It wasn't as simple as wiping dust away from a window. The thought of Kyran was like a split wine on his favorite white blouse.

Yet, Prince didn't want to push the thoughts of Kyran away. He was like a childhood toy that would forever stay in your closet, as it is forever a part of yourself you'll never want to forget.
