Unknown to everyone else, Serenity Forbes knew what actually goes on in Mystic Falls.

She knew that all those "animal attacks" were vampires. She knew that Elena was switching between the Salvatores. She knew that Bonnie was a witch and that her sister, Caroline, was a vampire.

She knew everything.

It's not her fault, really. Her sister and her friends aren't as quiet or sneaky as they think they are.

So when she got into a car accident with Tyler, Matt, and her sister, she thought that they would heal her with vampire blood.

She took the most damage and the doctors thought she'd be dead within the week.

Caroline on the other hand had a few scratches and a broken bone.

So it was surprising when her twin was healed first.

But she waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And then she realized that they didn't care enough to heal her.

That was when she finally broke.

She was going to die and no one cared.

Her mom hasn't visited her.

Instead she was working.

Serenity didn't know the reason but she had a few assumptions.

The empathetic part of her–  The part of her that pushed down her own wants and needs for the sake of everyone else. The part of her who did whatever others wanted. Because she's not good for anyone unless she bows her head. So she keeps quiet. She does whats expected of her. But she still needs to see the good in things even if there aren't any.   –could understand that her mom must be struggling, not knowing how to deal with losing the child she loved and raised.

But the other part. The selfish part–  The part that always gets pushed down despite it wanting to grab ahold of her. Despite the fact that it wanted her to be consumed, wanted her to yell and scream at everyone, wanted her to leave. Leave because they aren't good for her. Leave leave LEAVE—   –wanted her mother to be with her.

Serenity wished for her mom to enter her hospital room and hold her like she once did when she was a child.

To squeeze her as she makes all her worries and fears go away.

She wants her mom to tell her that it won't hurt. To tell her that it's okay to be scared.

To tell her that she's loved.

But she knows that won't happen.

She's been laying in this bed for five days.

Everything wasn't hurting as much so she knew that she was going to die tonight.

Serenity closed her eyes, wanting to die in her sleep.

She didn't expect that she would be opening them an hour later when she felt someone gently holding her hand, rubbing their thumb across her knuckles.

She had no idea then but this person was her salvation.
