They didn't quite know when they began to get closer but they liked it. Despite popular belief Juvia and Gray had already been somewhat close but all everyone else cared about was the fact that Gray hadn't reciprocated Juvia's feelings, it's not that he didn't know about her feelings for him. It was more that he just couldn't commit. Of course she was beautiful, strong, funny, dedicated, and devoted but then again he thought that about most of his guildmates for example Cana, Lisanna, and Erza. He also wasn't sure he liked her the same way that she liked him.
Luckily they were closer now. As soon as Gray came back from a mission Juvia would be waiting for him and he would tell her all about the mission. It had been like that in the past too, but Juvia would have to pry it out of him. Now Gray would actually anticipate telling her about it. He also occasionally in secret brought her a trinket or two but that was rare. They would also go on short missions together sometimes. Overall they were just closer.
