piece twenty-five

25 4 37

I miss you.

Like a pendant without its chain,

like a chess board without its pawns,

like a planet without its moon

because without it,

it can barely function.

I want you.

Like a hungry wolf desires its prey,

like a bookworm desires a new story,

like an isolated girl desires an escape

because reality is becoming too heavy

for her to constantly hold alone.

I need you.

Like a rainbow needs sunshine after a dark storm,

like a flashlight needs a pair of batteries to turn on,

like a human needs oxygen to breathe

because nothing works alone

in a world of reactants and products.

I love you.

Like long, hot showers in the winter,

like books that are so good that you can't put them down,

like songs that hit indescribably.

Like the way you text me at night to see how I'm feeling,

like the way you hold me when I feel alone,

like the way you laugh with me when nobody is watching.

I have you.

Even if it isn't in the way I want it to be.
