A world so big yet oh so small

I used to think I didn't care about what society deemed correct
I didn't care about the stares
the comments
or the looks
the world seemed so big
all the possibilites
the cuts
colours
styles
but as time went on the world grew smaller
the comments louder and the stares got harder
I couldn't see I couldn't think
I grew my hair I changed my style
The voices settled but others started
why can't anyone ever just mind their own
oh to be a little cat, a dog, lizard, bunny or rat
A speck of dust, a star in the sky, a drop in the ocean
not a problem in my life
I used to think I didn't care
But unfortunately I do
