y/n's pov:
now you're searching the backseat of a grey minivan, trying to find anything remotely useful as sweat drips down your back. a smile breaks through your scowl when you find an unopened plastic bottle of water and a pair of black sunglasses. 'save the water for later, save the glasses for glenn' you think as you place the sunglasses into a pocket of your jean shorts and the bottle into a pocket of your backpack. you shut the trunk, scanning across the highway for glenn. you spot him looking through a sedan a few feet away, mumbling something to himself.

'what a weirdo' you think as you make your way towards him. you wait for him to notice you, leaning against the side of the car. when he doesn't notice you standing there, you decide to make him notice. you bang your foot against the side of the car with a loud thump, making glenn jump with a cute little yelp. you burst out into giggles, doubling over as he turns to you with an absolutely startled expression. "y/n! you scared the shit out of me! what the hell!" he exclaims, making you laugh even louder.

"oh my- that was hilarious!" you manage to choke out between giggles, wiping tears from you eyes as you starighten up, leaning your back against the side of sedan once more, trying to catch your breath between giggles. glenn huff and rolls his eyes, his cheeks flushed a light pink, probably from embarassment. "yeah, real fuckin funny, y/n." he says in flat tone, but you could hear a bit of affection behind the sarcastic words. an amused smile spreads across your lips, having finally catching your breath from your outburst.

"sorry, sorry i couldn't resist. you should really work on your spacial awareness, sugar." you reply, realizing that you used a nickname- no, a nickname would be totally acceptable, you're friends afterall. but you just called glenn a petname. like one that you call a boyfriend. you feel your face heat up as your mind races with the implications of your slip up, grasping for a save that wouldn't eternally screw up your friendship. "i mean- uh, i'm so sorry, i didn't mean to call you that- it kinda just slipped out. please forget i ever said that." you sputter, glancing away from gleen, then back.

that's when you get a good look of his reaction. the guy looks like he's just run a mile, his whole face flushed red, eyes wide and his mouth hanging open. it feels like hours as you stare at him, waiting for him to finally speak. "no, i- its fine, y/n, really. i... don't mind the nickname. and you're right, i should be more aware of my surroundings." he says, rubbing the back of his neck and glancing away from you. you mentally sigh in relief, glad he didn't take it the wrong way. that he doesn't mind it. you nod "yeah, you make it way too easy to sneak up on ya. oh, i have a present for you." you reply, remembering the sunglasses you found earlier.

glenn looks up at you, his head tilted in curiosity like a puppy. 'god he's so adorable- no, y/n, focus!' you think as you pull the pair of black, heartshaped sunglasses from your pocket and hold them out to him. the grateful smile glenn gives you totally doesn't your knees feel weak, and the barely there brush of his fingers against your palm as he takes the glasses definately does not make butterflies erupt in your stomach. 'okay, this is getting bad, pull it together, dumbass! romance is not a priority right now' you think as glenn puts them on. "thanks, y/n, you're the best." he says, and you just shrug the compliment off, not wanting to admit how damn good it felt to be the object of glenn's gratitude. "let's keep lookin, we still need to siphon up some gas." you reply and he nods, following you further into the car graveyard.

half an hour and about a quarter of siphoned gas later, you and glenn are taking a break, leaning against the trunk of a dusty minivan, passing your newly procured waterbottle between you. you steal a glance at him as he takes a sip of the lukewarm water, watching his adams apple bob as he swallows. you feel your mouth go dry at the sight and look forward again to avoid being caught staring. "hey, can i ask you somethin?" glenn asks, passing the waterbottle to you, you nod before taking a sip, trying not to think about how glenn's lips were just on the same water bottle. that you're basically indirectly kissing him. 'what are you? twelve? get it together and act like an adult, damnit!' your inner voice scolds as you pull the waterbottle from your lips, turning to look up at him.

you clear your throat, fighting to keep your eyes on his and not to his chapped, wet lips. "sure, go ahead." you answer, passing the half empty waterbottle to him. he pauses, looking slightly hesitant to voice his answer "i know its. stupid to even think about right now, with everything that's happened, but would you ever consider being, more than friends with someone?" he asks, and the bluntness of his question makes you blink in surprise. "what?" you blurt out, your head tilted in question. glenn looks like a dear in headlights, a soft gasp escaping his lips. you immediately feel guilty for how you responded and try to backtrack "sorry- i was just surprised-mnph-!" your apology is cut short when he slaps a hand over your mouth and pulls you down and under the car you were leaning on.

you're about to protest, ask what the hell he was doing when you hear it. or, them. the sounds inhuman moans and shambling feet of the undead. you share a look with glenn and he takes his hand off your mouth, placing his index finger over his own in a shh gesture. you nod in understanding and he nods back. you turn your head to watch as countless pairs of shuffling feet passing the car, unaware of your presence. 'for now' you mind helpfully supplies and you bite your lip, trying to control your breathing and stay fucking calm. well, as calm as you could he with only foot of space sperating you between getting ripped apart. you don't even realize that you're squeezing glenn's hand until he squeezes back.

what was about fifteen minutes of waiting felt like hours until the groans and moans of the dead quite down, but you wait about sixty seconds, just to be sure. once you don't see another pair of rotting legs stumbling past you release glenn's hand and crawl out from under the car, brushing your hands on your pants and scanning the area, assesing the damage. your fears are actualized when you spot sophia run out from the car she was under two walkers chasing after her, and rick chasing after the walkers. your eyes flcik to carol as you hear her sob "theres two walkers after my baby!" she chokes out, lori holding onto her arms to keep her in place.

you and glance at glenn and share an 'oh shit' look, your mind racing with scenerios of what would happen to sophia. your interal spiral is cut short when you hear a pained groan and turn towards the sound, seeing t-dog holding his bloody arm,  a deep gash from the wrist to his elbow. 'fuckin christ, can we ever get a damn break?' you think as you walk to him, crouching to his level, trying assesing the damage to his arm through the hand that was gripping it.

"what happened?" you ask and he looks up to you, a pained grimace on his usually cheerful face. the sight makes your stomach drop with sympathy. "sliced it open on a car door trying to hide. hurts like hell." he replies with a groan and you could tell it wouldnt be long until it got infected, or worse. you stand, holding out a hand to help him up "come on, i'll clean, suture and bandage it, then give you some antibiotics to fight of any infection for now." you say and t-dog nods, taking your hand in his and allowing you to help him up. "thanks, doc." he says as you wrap his arm around your shoulders and start helping him towards the rv, you snort and roll your eyes "don't call me that."
