The first memory Cecelia Peletier has is her big sister holding her under her bed as their father came home in a frenzy of anger. Cecelia remembers them holding each other, although her sister didn't have the heart to tell her that she was the one holding her, it's a memory that sticks out among the many of Ed's drunken days and nights. Her small hands covering Cecelia's even smaller ears and enduring the brunt of the sounds of slapping and things breaking. It was the first of those nights she remembers, but certainly not the last.
Cecelia Peletier always believed herself to be her sisters protector. But she wasn't. Sophia was always hers. Admittedly so, Cecelia is the stronger one of the two. She fights. She bites. She kicks and yells, and has a temper that cannot be shoved into a box like the other women in her family. She's nothing like Sophia, and she is certainly nothing like her mother, Carol. A woman she both resented and loved as deeply as a daughter can.
