(Rory is trans. Ftm and will be addressed by others as female for the beginning of the story until he comes out)

[The Tyler household- 7am, Monday Morning]

Jackie- Rose, Wake up! You'll be late for school! It's your first day!

Rose- [groans, shuffles further down under her covers]

Jackie- Rose!

[She gets out of bed, slowly, and gently places 'Baby one more time' onto her record player]

Rose- [walks (moonwalks) into the shower] Oh baby baby...I shouldn't have let you gooooo

[Several Spears songs later]

Rose- [walks into the kitchen] What's for breakf-

Jackie- You can eat on the way! We've got to go. Have you packed? Oh and grab your jacket, I have a feeling it's going to rain later

Rose- [laughs] well then, if you have a 'feeling' then it must be true!

[She grabs her jacket and yawns]

Jackie- Here, let me help-

Rose- Mum! I'm 13, I think I can just about manage to put on my own coat!

Jackie- Okay, sorry sweetheart, but- [she grabs a brush]

Rose- Mum!

Jackie- Your hair is a mess, look at those knots, come here, it won't take long-

[She starts brushing through Rose's wavy hair]

Rose- ow-

Jackie- How are you feeling love? Nervous, excited? Both-

Rose- Both. More nervous though

Jackie- you'll be fine, I'm sure

Rose- ow!

Jackie- It wouldn't hurt as much if you stayed still!

Rose- Mum

Jackie- Yeah?

Rose- I've seen alot of...strange comments about torchwood online. Are you sure it's a normal boarding school?

Jackie- well, you know what I always say, never trust the internet!

Rose- I've...never heard you say that, ever

Jackie- of course you have, I say it all the time!

Rose- Sure...

Jackie- Anyway, normal school or not, this is a chance for you to make some friends

Rose- I have friends!

Jackie- Rose, sweetheart, the cat next door doesn't count

Rose- [frowns]

Rose- are you done yet?

Jackie- almost

Rose- This isn't a hair salon! I thought you said I was going to be late-

Jackie- Don't you want to make a good impression?

Rose- [shrugs]

Jackie- [spins her around] We're not going to move again, if that's what your worried about
