One Simple Attack

The Kalos League Grand Finals came to a standstill. It had all come down to the wire: Alain's mega-evolved Charizard against Ash's perfectly bonded Ash-Greninja. It was truly a battle for the ages, with the entire region holding their breath as the two Pokémon poured their everything into every attack they threw out.

Charizard was putting his all into this battle. He wasn't just fighting for himself or his trainer, but to prove himself to his greatest rival.

From the first battle he'd ever shared with him, the dragon knew that the ninja frog would be a great battler. He wasn't expecting him to reach heights of which the region had never seen in millennia, but all it did was fuel his lust for battle. Greninja reciprocated these feelings, as he wanted nothing more than to prove himself. Not just to the region, or when to his trainer, but to his greatest rival.

The mutual respect the two had formed surprisingly resulted in them becoming fast friends. Despite not seeing each other often due to Ash and Alain's different goals, they thoroughly enjoyed the brief times they got to catch up. They trusted each other on a brotherly level, and knew they could rely on one another.

Charizard had all of these memories... clinging to him. He'd put everything he ever had into fighting this battle with his rival, knowing full well Greninja would do the same. While they were enemies on the battlefield, they knew that this was what their rivalry had culminated towards. Charizard knew that, and was fully prepared to give the Water-Type the fight of his life.

These hopes all came to a screeching halt when Charizard threw a singular Thunder Punch.

It made sense to use it. Electric moves were strong against Water-Types, and if he were lucky, paralyzing the ninja frog would set him up for an easy victory. Charizard had put his all into cocking his fist back and hurling right into the frog's chest, preparing to see him be sent flying backwards.

This did not happen.

Charizard wished that it did. If it did, then the fire lizard wouldn't be standing here in complete shock, while his fist went through Greninja's chest and out through his back.

It was just one simple Thunder Punch. Just one. Yet, that was all that was needed for Greninja to become impaled on Charizard's arm.

The dragon was too stunned to move, fear painted all over his expression. Almost instantly, the stadium grew silent. Small murmurs from the crowd filled the silence, but all Charizard could hear were his rival's raspy, heaving breathing, coupled with his weak grunts and moans.

He looked to his trainer for guidance. If anyone knew what to do, it would be him. It had to be. Unfortunately for Charizard, Alain was just as stunned as he was. Not at Greninja, however. At Ash.

The boy was on his knees, slightly, weakly moaning in pain. His Pikachu was flailing frantically in front of him, pleading for his trainer to snap out of it.

Charizard slowly looked away from Ash, not being able to see the pain he'd caused two individuals. He looked towards the stands, and immediately regretted his decision.

He sees the honey blonde performer, mouth agape with her hands over her heart. And next to her, her partner. Her best friend. Most importantly to Charizard, though, his rival's mate.

Braixen. Completely stunned, both paws over her mouth, while tears stung the corners of her eyes.

Charizard never knew the fox personally, but from his conversations with Greninja, he knew that the two had feelings for each other just begging to be expressed. In their final conversation before the Kalos League, he remembers teasing the frog whom was being cuddled by the fox, while he looked away in embarrassment. Love was never Charizard's thing, but he knew that this was an inevitability for Greninja. The dragon was more than happy to help him build the confidence he needed to confess.

Now, here he was, that same friend who he helped find the love he was struggling so hard to acquire, impaled on his limb. All the while making his friend's mate watch it with her own eyes.

Charizard knew without a single doubt that he'd fucked up.

He may have possibly killed his greatest rival, and friend.
