For everyone who loves someone they can't have.

When we're little, they always like to tell us things like, "try your best," and, "you can be anything you want." But, they left out the part about how: to try something is to inevitably risk failure, and, the things we desire can be impossible and out of our reach. I wish I knew that earlier on in life. My name was Sophia Waterton, and it was finally my senior year at Brishburg High. Everyone in my class was excited, getting their acceptance letters and scholarships. I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to be. I was the typical introvert who somehow got roped into an extrovert friend group by my best friend, Alice. I stared blankly at Alice now as she held up a photo of her newest boy toy,
"Well? Isn't he cute?" She asked with a giddy expression, one that made her brown eyes spark with life,
"He needs a shave, it looks like he has a dead rat on his face" I stated bluntly, the guy was a boy with an ugly bowl cut and horrible goatee, in my opinion, Alice was far too pretty for any of the wannabe men at our high school,
"You're so harsh, Sophie!" She laughed a little, then proceeded to message others on her phone. Unlike Alice, who was tall with freckles, dark brown eyes, and her natural red hair, I was short with blue eyes and blonde hair... and my horrible sensitive skin. The wind blew the pages of our art project as we sat in the courtyard of our school. Our art teacher, Mr. Uggins, brought us out here and told us to draw something we saw outside. Alice, of course, was busy with other things; however, I took the opportunity to draw her as she stared at her phone. I was average at art, but I needed at least one art credit to graduate. It was only the middle of senior year, and I was impressed with how much my artwork had improved with just one class. I was better with digital art than anything on paper; however.
"Maybe you should be an artist?" Alice smiled at me, woah she was actually looking away from her phone?
"What makes you say that? You're better at art than I am, I draw cartoons more than anything else," I sighed,
"Hm, an animator then?" She suggested, "hey it's something! You gotta figure out what you wanna do soon enough, besides, if you major in animation or art you can room with me at SU!" She suggested. No thanks, I had seen how messy she kept her room.
"Pass" I laughed, and she gave me one of her pouty looks.

when some random student came up to ask for a pencil, I didn't realize how much would change that day.
