I ran down the beach, the wind whipping my short pumpkin hair. I left foot prints behind me that the ocean gently washed away.  Curls bounced off my face but I kept running. 

The sun blazed in the sky. The ocean rocked in a soothing motion under the clear crystal blue sky.

I couldn't be late. It would be the worst thing in the world if I was. Plus, I had to get home before anyone knew I was gone. 

This was one of my secret outings. Mom doesn't like me heading out alone even though I'm 16 and can drive. 

I looked down at my watch.

4:35.

I was going to be late.
