"I'm going out Genos!" You called from the door. "I'll see you in time for dinner!"
"Alright," He replied with a wave. You smiled happily at him and shut the door behind you. You walked down the stairs and skipped out into the streets.
The moment you left the content from his face melted away and was replaced with one of annoyance. You had been going out for the past three weeks non-stop. This wouldn't have bugged him, not at all, if it weren't for the fact that you were going with him. Out of the blue, this new hero dropped you off one day at their doorstep having saved you from a monster on your way back from the store. Ever since that damn forsaken day this guy hadn't stopped seeing you. And you would comply whenever he asked you out.
Unknown to Genos, however, you only saw this guy as a friend. You thought as a friend it would be nice to go out every now and then. Plus, you felt that you owed the hero Rick Ryder a little bit for saving you that unfortunate night.
"Oi! Watch it!" Saitama warned as he dropped a plate into the sink. The poor glass in Genos' hand looked on the brink of cracking with how much pressure he was putting on it as he washed it. He blinked in surprise and muttered an apology.
Siatama sighed and rolled his eyes. "So, (y/n)-chan looks happy, or er, happier."
"What do you mean?" Genos asked carefully.
"I'm just saying, ever since she's been seeing that Rick Ryder she's seems a lot more cheerful. It's kinda gross to be honest."
"Really? I haven't noticed," Genos shrugged. But truth be told he knew this far too well. You were smiling more often than usual and you hummed a lot to yourself. Just the way you talked about him seemed to light you up. It irritated him to no end. He wanted to be the reason for your smile, he wanted to be the one you were out with, and he was the one that should've stepped up when he had the chance. Now, it was too late. You were falling for someone. And it wasn't him.
But to you, he was a new friend to talk about. It wasn't that you tried to continuously press the subject on him, it was just that something similar came up in conversation and you would contribute with some of Ryder's knowledge.
"So what are we gonna eat tonight?" Saitama's question brought him out of his thoughts. "Oh, uh, I don't know yet," Genos mumbled.
The bald man gave him a mildly shocked expression. "You're usually pretty certain about everything and now you seemed to have lost your head."
He didn't lose his head, he lost you. "I don't know, I'll figure something out," Genos blew off the question. Saitama looked at him oddly but then just shrugged and walked away.
~A few hours later~
Where the hell were you!? It was almost the middle of the night and you still hadn't come home. Genos paced around him the living room running his hand through his hair in exasperation. He considered going out looking for you, but he didn't want to find you and be interrupting your date with Ryder. That was the last thing he wanted, to see you with him.
But what if you were in trouble? What if that guy had tried something on you and he wasn't there to save you? What if the worst befell on you all because of his selfish pride?
All he could think of is your face trembling with fear as that guy stood over you with an evil grin looking at you like a piece of meat he was about to devour. Genos' fists shook with rage at the image, but he didn't know what to do! Were you safe? Did you need help?
He grit his teeth with agitation as he began pacing faster around the room. What should he do? What should he do? What should he do? What should he--
