When I tell you stuff,
When to you, my heart I bare,
I speak with words, gestures, tones,
So listen, don’t just hear.
I tell you my secrets and woes
The fears that refuse to budge,
I show the real me, in and out
So listen, don’t judge.
If I say, "All is fine"
But look as anguished as Job,
Don't add your noise to my inner storm
Be ready to listen, don't probe.
Yes, you’ve been through it all,
You’re experienced and wise,
But sometimes, what I need you to do
Is listen, not advise.
Sometimes, my ranting seems irrelevant,
My tales are such a bore
But please be a true friend
Still listen, don’t ignore.
I know you’re trying to help,
You don’t intend to worsen things.
So please do what I ask,
Nothing else, just listen.
