Fire And Sand (Gaara Love Story)

Chapter 1

"Akane! Wake up or your going to be late for your exams!"

I woke up to my older sister Ruka shaking me, whilst screaming in my ear.

I groaned and covered my head with my blanket.

"5 more minutes!"

She kept shaking me for a good 10 seconds when she stood up and huffed.

"Fine, you leave me no choice!"

Suddenly I felt my muscles constrict as my arms and legs began to move on their own accord and my mind became cloudy as I felt Ruka's mind take over my own. Next thing I know, I was out of bed on my own two feet. I gave her a harsh glare for using her mind bending jutsu on me.

"Glare at me all you want, you're going to be late for your first day as a Genin if you don't get your butt moving."

She sashayed out of my room as she knew she was right and I wouldn't put up any more of a fight. I quickly got dressed in my usual fire dress that I wore with black leggings that stopped midway down my calves and black ninja sandals. I tried brushing my long mahogany colored hair, but it never stays in place or wants to be neat so I just leave it.

I wrapped my Leaf headband around my neck and my kunai holster on my left thigh. I quickly make a mad dash out of my clan's compound and start racing to the Hidden Leaf's ninja academy.

I make it to class in time with several minutes to spare and I take my usual spot next to Sauske Uchiha. Now don't get me wrong, I have no obsessive crush on him like the rest of my female classmates do but Sauske and I were once super close until the massacre of his clan.

My once sweet friend is now an angry shell of his former self. But he still let's me sit me by him and girls like Sakura and Ino only pick fights with me once in a while. I want to be there for my friend no matter what, even if he hates the world.

While he sat their angry as usual, I leaned over to talk to Naruto who was on the other side of Sauske. I smiled seeing his ninja headband.

"Hey Naruto, want to go get some Dango to celebrate being Genin tonight? My treat."

"Heck yeah, Akane! I told you I would look great in a ninja headband. It was practically made for me!"

I giggled along at his motor mouth when all of a sudden Sakura and Ino came bursting through the classroom door out of breath. As soon as Naruto noticed Sakura, our conversation ended. Naruto tried standing up to greet Sakura, but got shoved down in the process.

"Hi Sauske. Mind if I sit next to you?"

I rolled my eyes at this daily interaction between my fellow Kunoichi and Sauske. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Ino and Sakura but this happens daily. Ino has already cut in to the one-sided conversation.

"Back off forehead, I'm sitting next to Sauske."

"I was here first!"

Next thing you know there is a whole swarm of girls gathering around staking their claim of who got here first and who gets to sit next to Sauske. Naruto suddenly jumped onto the desk in front of Sauske and sat there glaring at him. I couldn't help but put my head down and try to go to sleep until Iruka shows up because nothing good ever comes out of those two.

Well....I was wrong. Something good did come out of those two. Naruto and Sauske ended up kissing each other, but of course I missed and now Naruto is beaten to a pulp. Iruka finally showed up afterwards and began his Genin speech.

"As of today, you are all Ninjas. To get here you have faced difficult trials and hardships. But that's nothing. What comes next will be far more difficult. Now you are only Genin, you will all be grouped into 3 man squads with the exception of group who will have a 4 man squad as we have an uneven number and each squad will be led by a Jonin."

I looked down the row to see the gears turning in Sakura and Naruto's heads. They obviously want to be paired with their crushes, but they're so oblivious to how much their crush detests them. Iruka began calling out the squads by numbers.

"Squad Seven....Naruto Uzumaki...Sakura Haruno."

Naruto stood up to cheer at that, while Sakura had a look of doom on her face.

"Sauske Uchiha..."

This time Sakura cheered, while Naruto looked absolutely devastated.

"And Akane Suzuki."

At the announcement of my name, Naruto stood up cheering again while Sakura slammed her head on her desk. While Naruto began arguing with Iruka about why he was stuck on a team with Sauske, I overheard Ino and Sakura talking about me.

"Good luck trying to get Sauske's attention with Little Miss Perfect on your team. He won't notice you or your forehead with her around."

"Shut up Ino-Pig! I'm not going to live in Akane's shadow!"

I couldn't help but turn red at their conversation. They've been calling me that stupid nickname since we were kids and I don't want Sakura to feel that way. Sakura is so much more then she gives herself credit for.
