"Shhh", my mothers says, with a crack in her voice. I can tell she is scared. I'm scared. Who wouldn't be in this situation. "Everything will be okay, just wait for the scary men to pass", she replies after her scared hush.

That was the last time I heard from her, which was eight years ago, I am currently fifteen. Now it's just me and dad, which is an alcoholic, pity of him to be like that. He is a smart man, graduated with a Masters degree in business school, but puts it to shame every night while drunk. He used to be a good man, but after mom died, he just lost it. Took to smoking and drinking for 'help'.

When he was sober, he would give good advice, teach me things. However my best friend taught me more things, we had fun, you know casual high school activities. We went shooting with his dad in the woods, went out to eat and watched sports games on Sunday's. They felt more like a family than my own.

Now I have no-one, back hiding, waiting for the scary men to pass. We call them Swifters, at least we used to, when there was a 'we'.
