if I don't mean what I say,
I won't hold your hand
if my plan is to betray.
I won't pretend I care
just so you'd fall for me,
I won't fake kindness
if you're really not my cup of tea.
I won't let you hold me
if I know that you will leave,
I won't give you my heart
if you're someone I'll never believe.
I won't let your words get to me
if you don't mean what you say,
I won't need your smile
to make it through the day.
And so you ask why I'm afraid
to fall in love with you
It's because I fear distance.
And I fear commitment, too.
