Once I was 7 years old

I thought that life was easy

I played and played so much

At the lake throwing rocks,

At the park playing tags,

At home building forts,

I played and played so much

Once I was 7 years old

I was a very happy child

I had a big family

We had a small house

But I never felt lonely

At night when I couldn't sleep

Daddy would sing to me, till I fall asleep

But when he's away I would count sheep

And then I'd close my eyes and dream,

Silently counting the hours when morning comes

Once I was seven years old

I remembered I had so much toys

My brothers and sisters once asked me,

If I wanted more,

Of course I do!

They took me to the toy store one summer afternoon

They'd let me choose whatever I wanted

I chose a big Nerf gun, they bought it

And I never stopped smiling that day

Once I was seven years old

I awoke to party balloons,

surrounding my tiny, little room

Mom and Dad and my sisters and brothers were all there

I couldn't believe I forgot my own birthday!

I jumped and screamed and danced and thrashed

I'm turning eight!

Mommy grabbed the cake,

"Make a wish, honey," she said to me.

I wish to grow up.

Fifteen years later, I realized I wished wrong.

Now I'm twenty-three years old

I lost track of time

I couldn't believe I'm a fully grown man

Now I smile less and less

Now I have a small family

And a big house

But I always feel lonely

Everything changed.

I thought this is what I wanted, but I wished wrong

Now I'm teetering on the edge of foolishness

I never thought being an adult sucks

I miss being the seven year old I was

Now I'm twenty- three years old

I never play anymore,

My toys are all gone,

Daddy doesn't sing to me at night

Birthdays get boring

And I don't know what to do with my life.

So, I wish one last time,

That I could go back to the days when,

Once, I was seven years old.

- thank you [ again ] for putting up w/ me. love you!
