you sat down with your head staring up at the sky. what a beautiful night. each star was shining in its very own way. you were so amazed at the beauty that lay before you. millions of small lights, stars. there was no noise to be hear but the soft brushes from the wind against the trees. the moonlight lit up the land around you though you were laying on a roof. you had went to the fourth floor and went out the roof. you enjoyed stargazing more than anything. you watched the stars until a few clouds covered them, you pouted a bit because they covered the best star, or what looked like a star from earth, it covered Venus. you took a deep breath, closing your eyes and felt small droplets of rain fall upon your body. you inhaled softly and soon the rain became slightly heavier but not enough for a storm. just softly, the noise made you feel sleepy. you had lived in the forest where no city or country life could reach you, rarely any cars would come by. it was a large mansion with large stairs in the main entrances leading to the upper east and west wing. each wing had numerous halls and numerous rooms with paintings and sculptures to keep you company. you felt a gust of wind come back signaling that a storm may be headed your way. you opened your eyes and stared up at the sky. the stars were no longer visible but rain was falling. you sat up and heard very faint thunder. it was so calming and peaceful. you felt water drip off your chin and hair. your hair was soaked at this point along with your dress but no matter. you wish it rained harder so you would be able to hear the storm better. the trees shook with the heavy winds coming, pushing your hair back and giving a cool breeze to your face. you could barely see in the night and yet you could make out the land below you, every tree, the garden and the small fountain that was placed in the centre of the garden. you glanced up once more, the moon was hard too see making it harder to see. everything was perfect. you were about to lay back down until you heard your name.
"(name!!)"
you jolted a bit and looked inside. you opened the window you had came in from and hopped onto the cold floors. sadly you didn't own this large castle like home. you heard your name once more and rushed over. there was your boss, Alfred. Alfred owned his own company so he became very rich. you could still hear the rain echoing from the roof and windows. he stood in the hallways with his arms crossed and an upset look on his face. you walked over, slowly, knowing you would get in trouble. you left a trail of water to him, and stood still once close enough. water dropped to the floor. Alfred sighed and lowered his arms. you were just a simple maid, but a high ranking one at least. Alfred's personal favorite. you made his perfect meals and desserts, set things up perfectly like his office or appointments, you knew how to talk to him and make him happy. Your relationship with him was mostly the part that considered you to be so special, was how affectionate he was with you. He never kissed you but it was almost as if the two of you were in some sort of relationship.
Alfred wrapped a towel around your shoulders and had a soft smile. "stargazing again?"
you looked at him and nodded. "yes sir." You were surprised he wasn't upset. Normally you run off for hours to stargaze. But Alfred loved stars and he adored you.
"did you manage to see the constellation I asked you about the other day?" he asked kindly.
Alfred was indeed a very sweet man, it was hard for him to get mad.
you smiled and nodded. "oh yes!! but only for a short amount of time. it began to rain."
"like always." he said, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. "next time tell me when you are going stargazing so I can clear your schedule for the night. maybe I can join you." he said as you both walked down a hallway.
You smiled at him and nodded though today he didnt seem too happy. "Are you okay, sir?"
Alfred looked down at you and hugged you. "Yeah. I'm alright. Tomorrow will be very stressful for me but it will be okay."
He slowly let the hug fade and kissed your forehead. He seemed oddly affectionate than usual. He walked with you to the east wing where your room was. You watched other maids walk by, all where yawning or talking about something. Only some of the maids slept on the upper east wing, most slept in the lower west wing on the second floor.
Finally, you reached your room and Alfred walked in with you. "go shower and come to my room, alright?" He moved his arm from your shoulder.
You nodded as he headed for the door. "Would you like me to bring you something? Like tea or coffee?"
Alfred shook his head with a smile. "Don't worry too much. Just come to my room." He said and left the room.
You dropped the towel on the floor and removed you soaking dress. Once in the bathroom, You turned the shower on a very high temperature and let steam fill the room. After you completely undressed, you stepped in the shower. too hot. You made the water warm after messing with the dial. You exhaled and moved your head under the water. It warmed your whole body. You closed your eyes and let the water fall over your face. The steam helped you decompress. You felt safe and calm. This was home. Maybe you didn't know your family and barely had any friends besides the other maids, cooks and Alfred but you felt loved. You had an amazing large room with a queen size bed with a beautiful view and beautiful decorations along with furniture. Your shower was big enough to fit six people! Plus you had a separate tub too. You were able to have delicious meals whenever you felt like and you were allowed to take time for yourself, even if that meant sleeping, reading or even stargazing. This was home to you.
After washing yourself, you stepped out the shower and grabbed a towel off the rack near you, wrapping it around you. You stepped out, feeling the bathroom carpet on your feet so you didn't soak the floor. You dried your hair and headed into room once more. You dressed yourself in a soft nightgown and picked up around the room before brushing your hair. the rain was still strong outside, tapping against the window. You left your room and headed down the vast hallways to the west wing. Once there, you galanced at the gallery of paintings that lead to huge doors on the right side of the hall. You knocked and the door opened. Alfred smiled sweetly and took your hand. He closed the door while you sat upon his huge bed. Alfred had a grand room with all sorts of things. Most of the room was decorated in blue since he favored it so much. Alfred sat down next to you and sighed. You could tell he was anxious. You leaned on him. "What happened?" You asked.
Alfred just let out a breath and climbed over you, making you lay down. He shifted and dropped onto the bed, next to you. "I don't think I've ever been so scared." He mumbled.
This was normal, Alfred would ask you to spend the night with him whenever he was stressed. You shifted and ran your hand through his hair, it was damp, you could tell he had showered. "Tell me what happened." You said softly as you pulled the covers over your bodies. Alfred turned off the lamp that was lighting the huge room and turned to you. You caressed his face and his breath began to shake.
"I-" he took in a breath. "I had to give you up- er well that's not the right way to put it, im transferring you to work somewhere else."
You looked concerned and moved your hand. "What..?"
Unlike housemaids, you lived with Alfred and rarely ever got paid but you were given so many things.
"I had to sign a transfer contract and tomorrow he is coming to take you away." He was shaking.
"Is it for money?" You asked calmly.
"No. He has more power over me. He wants you to work for him, he has some sort of obsession with good maids and after he heard of you, he asked if you'd work for him." Alfred looked down and teared up. It wasn't his choice. "I tried everything. I offered money, deals, even my own company but he only wanted you. Please don't hate me."
You couldn't bring yourself to be mad at him. You felt your own face become heated and your eyes water. Alfred let out a hitched breath. "I love you. I'm sorry." He managed to say.
You kissed his head and wiped his tears away. He shifted up and looked down at you. His eyes were so vibrant in the light of the night. He moved down and kissed you. He didn't try anything sexual or too romantic, just a kiss. It was the first time you were ever kissed. You placed your hand at his cheek and deepened the kiss. He pulled away and kissed your forehead before laying back down. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled your back against his chest. He murmured another soft 'I love you' before burying his face in your neck. "Who is he?" You asked.
Alfred kissed your neck. "His name is Luciano Vargas. He promised to take care of you." He said.
Alfred was super affectionate now, giving you kisses and small whispers of sweet nothings until he fell asleep. You remain awake, listening to the sound of rain. You let out a sob and covered your mouth, hoping Alfred didn't hear you but he did. He shifted awake. You turned to him and hugged him tightly. He kissed your forehead tiredly. "I don't want to go..." You sobbed.
"Everything will be okay, my little stargazer." Alfred whispered. He wished he had more time with you so maybe you could have dated but tonight was the last night. No stars could make this night better. You loved your home and suddenly you were being pulled away as if your life was a business transaction.
You woke up when Alfred let go of you. "You should go pack your things." He said, looking down as if him looking you in the eyes would make things easier. You shifted to sit up and left the room. You walked to your room and showered quickly. You saw just a single luggage on your bed and assumed you could only bring a limited amount of things. You dressed nicely in black jeans and a nice grey shirt. You brought anything that you thought you would really need, like clothes, hygienic tools, books, etc. You had the room mostly empty. You peered out your window, the sun was shining above you. It was a dark gloomy day. Grey clouds covered the sky as if it would rain once more. You heard a knock upon your door and opened it. Alfred stood at the door, dressed in a casual yet formal outfit. He walked in and handed you two wrapped gifts. "Open them tonight, okay?" He smiled sadly.
You nodded and packed them away. Alfred kissed your forehead once more before leading you down the hallways. You looked at every single art piece. You wanted to remember it all. The other house attendents waved to you. You made it to the main stairway. There a man stood there, his arms on his hip. He looked like he was tired of waiting. The front doors were open and a stranger care was visible. Alfred gave you a tight hug. He was deeply in love with you, he wished he didn't have to see you go. You inhaled his smell once more before he pulled away.
A small maid, a friend, smiled at you and helped you load your things into the large black car in the driveway. The man- Luciano and Alfred exchanged some words at the doorway. You watched for a second before the driver opened the car door for you. You thanked him and he closed the door. You watched Alfred and Luciano until they shook hands. Luciano walked to the car and sat next to you after the driver had opened the door for him. you had all your attention on Alfred. He looked sad for a moment and saw you staring at him. He grinned at you. You smiled a bit while Luciano exchange words with the driver. Finally, the car drove off. You watched the house dissappear into the forest around you. Your home was off into the horizon now.
"I'm surprised that took you so long." Luciano said, leaning back. Instantly you figured he was Italian with his accent.
"My apologies." You said softly.
"What should I call you?" He said after a long pause.
"(Name)" you looked down. You didn't want to look at him.
"I see. Well, (Name) you are going to be working for me now." He said a bit too proudly.
You stayed quiet.
Luciano groaned slightly and mumbled to himself.
You glanced out the window. "Its raining..." You said out loud.
Luciano looked at you for a moment before pulling out his cell phone. You never had one but you never needed it. you pressed your head against the window and listened to the rain. it was soft against the car.
Luciano said your name and when you looked at him, he tossed you something. you looked at it, it was a small necklace with a diamond in the shape of a heart with a gold honey shade. it was insanely beautiful and probably super expensive "put it on." he demanded.
you nodded and put it on with slight hesitation. Though it was a weird gesture for someone you just met, you still did as you were told. you let out a sigh and kept fiddling with the charm while you looked out the window. soon you had left the forest and were in the city. you shifted with a horrible feeling of anxiousness.
"we are going to be in the car for a while so get comfortable. we are heading to the airport and go to Italy." he said.
you felt uneasy. you never left the forest before. how would you even be able to handle a new nation? "I don't have a passport." you mumbled.
"Alfred had one for you." Luciano said and waved a little folder around. "I've got all your entire file here so don't worry about any of that."
you looked down. "is does it rain a lot in Italy?" you asked.
"depends on where you are and the season." Luciano responded. he didn't answer your question at all.
"is it nice to stargaze?" you asked. "where we will be, I mean."
"stargaze?" Luciano asked; "no no There won't be any 'stargazing' even if you could do it. you are a maid. not a guest."
you felt your chest tighten and you looked out the window. the rain was still going, a nice rhythm to calm you down a bit.
you refused to engage in any conversation with Luciano after what he said. you didn't even want to look at him which didn't seem to bother him at all.
it felt like hours had passed, you hadn't eaten yet but you didn't feel like eating anyway. you were so far from home you weren't even in the same state anymore. you looked around and saw huge tall skyscraper building, the streets full of people, weird technology everywhere, even strange food you've never thought of eating. you became overwhelmed and incredibly stressed. you looked at Luciano who didn't really care and was on his laptop. the rain was gone and the sky was covered in so much smog you couldn't see the night sky or even the sun for that matter. you felt short of breath and dizzy. you hugged yourself and tried to calm down but you couldn't take it. too much change in one day. too many emotions and too many goodbyes. you inhaled deeply as your eyes rolled back and in a way you forced your self to faint to avoid having a heavy panic attack in front of this new scary man. he wasn't threatening but he put you on edge. you dropped and your head was against Luciano's arm. he looked at you thinking you were trying do something but you weren't breathing normally. he closed his laptop and pulled you closer. he fanned out your face, giving you some cool air. you didn't wake up but he could feel your hands shaking slightly, he had a sense of what was going on.
Luciano huffed. "what a mess already." he grumbled and proceeded to trying to wake you from a faint. when you didn't wake up, he let you lean against him with his arm over you. you were breathing normally now, just sleeping.
after a few more hours, you woke up but this loud noise made your ears pop. you sat up and covered them. you looked around and realized you weren't in a car anymore, instead it was a private jet. you saw Luciano was on his laptop once more. he looked at you and saw you cover your ears. he made a laugh. "I'm guessing you've never flown before." he said. he was in a chair across the aisle. he motioned for you to come over. you stood up from the bed like chair and shakily walked to the seat next to him. he took our hand and guided you to sit down. he handed you a headset "put it over your head," he said but you didn't wanna let go of his hand, just the slight fear of the plane possibly crashing made you tense. he took the headset and placed it over your ears. the noise was faint now. you let go of his hand and moved to holding his arm. it wasn't like hold like romantic. it was like your life depended on holding onto him. he plugged a wire from the headset into his laptop and within a minute an audio was playing. it sounded like rain with soft music placing behind it. it was one of the most relaxing things you've ever heard. the noise that had popped your eardrums was tuned out and you loosened your grip on his arm. he looked at you like you were alien to this, and you were. you had basically spent your whole life in the same area and rarely left alfred's home. you let out a small breath and finally let go, then whispering a small apology. he waved it off and pointed out the window. you glanced over and peered down, it was all blue. you were right over the Atlantic ocean. you jolted and moved back. he let out a sigh and pushed you to look out the window again. you glanced at it once more and saw the ocean again. it was so large and empty. it was like looking into a flat world of blue but at the same time it was amazing. it was beautiful. it was twisting and making waves, the wind guiding it to a shore. you stared out to it and let out a small gasp. you became lost in thought, lost in your mind. you kept thinking about your home and leaned back against the seat. you closed your eyes as the audio played softly. you could hear the sounds of rain hitting against the pavement but yet it was just an audio. you let out a breath before feelings so sleepy again. you drifted off into another deep sleep. memories of home, the stars and the rain all twisted around in your dreams. you barely noticed all the time going by.
Luciano took off the headset and you jolted away. he handed it to a flight attended who went to place it with his belongings. Luciano took your hand and pulled you out the seat. "hurry up. we are late." he said. you followed him out the jet, the noise now hurting your ears slightly but it wasn't as bad as when you stepped outside the jet. you could hear the engine loud and clear. you squeezed Luciano's hand as he took you down some stairs from the jet's interior. You saw the large airport in front of you but it was a bit of a walking distance. you looked at Luciano who kinda seemed stressed. it was so bright out, the sun kind of hurt your eyes but then again, you just woke up. the temperature was warm and overbearing for you. once you walked into the huge building, a rush of cold air was pressed to you. there were people everywhere and it smelled weird. you moved a bit close to Luciano, he probably could protect you more than any other stranger there. you followed him and did your best to keep your eyes on the floor, staring at the tiles and weird shoes people wore. you glanced up when you saw doors to leave and a similar black car waiting outside. Luciano walked out and opened the door, you noticed he was on the phone and bickering in Italian. the driver helped you in and you watched Luciano get in, his tone of voice got slightly aggressive and louder. you weren't used to seeing people mad. you tried to make yourself seem invisible. the car started to go and Luciano hung up on the person. he looked at you and huffed. "my appointments are all mixed up." he sighed and rubbed his face. "but welcome to North Italy." he said, pointing out the window. you saw buildings kind of crammed close together with weird architecture. you stared at it and looked down. it wasn't home.
"may I ask why you would go through so much trouble for a maid?" you mumbled.
"because my maids are the top skilled and expensive." he said and composed himself from his earlier tantrum. "according to Alfred, you are a very promising person with unique yet unused skills. for your first week you will be given simple tasks and I'll see where I will place you on the working rank."
you nodded. hopefully he would let you work in a garden or somewhere where you could see the sky at night. the car drove away from civilization and into a private property. there you saw a mansion. bigger than Alfred's, almost a castle. you widen your eyes a bit, seeing the structure of it and the details that were placed in Just the entry. the driveway had its own fountain with a statue the mimicked the Renaissance. it was an angel with 6 wings, one pair covered it's face and one covered the feet, the last pair was spread wide with a gold rimming. "that's gorgeous." you whispered. Luciano looked at you and he cracked a little smile. "it's a seraphim angel. one with 6 wings and a burning power." he said softly. you glanced at him, he seemed to have a passionate about it.
Luciano helped you out the car. he brought you inside the grand doors of his "palace". you widen your eyes once more. the art in the room was so amazing, the painting on the ceiling, the chandelier, the castle like formation. you couldn't believe your eyes. it was white and gold. you saw so many things that resembled Angels all around. ones with 4 heads and 2 wings, others with rings over their bodies and some with a simple halo. you looks at the main stairs that lead the different wings of the home. "beautiful isn't it?" Luciano said, taking your hand. you nodded. he guided you up the stairs and into the west wing and into a hallway that was gold and red based. it was portraits on the walls and numerous doors on either side. the maid hallway. Luciano opened a door and you walked in. it was almost empty. just a simple bed, closet and dresser. it was small and very dull. you stared at it and felt your heart crash when you saw there was only a single window. "get settled in. your bags will be here in a moment." he said and left. you sat down on the bed and hugged yourself, you ended up getting so tired from jet lag, you lay your head down and rested.
that night, you were setting up your room and stumbled across Alfred's gifts. you opened one, it was a book about astrology with all kinds of consolations. you smiled sadly and hugged it. you placed it on your bed and sighed. you looked at the other gift but you didn't feel ready. you walked to your window and pushed the glass open. the night breeze brushed against you like it was pulling you outside, trying to direct you home. the air smelled different, it was warm, humid and a bit unclean but no matter, you prefer it over having nothing. this wasn't home, it wasn't safe to you. you looked up at the stars. there you saw your favorite star; Venus, once more. you let out a breath of sadness twisted with an overwhelming urge to just sob which was exactly what you did. you burst into tears, falling to your knees, letting out sobs. you tried to wipe away the tears but more just kept coming as if you had the rain in your eyes. your chest felt tight and your heart pounded. you sobbed more desiring someone to hold you but no one would come. you were alone. you pushed yourself up, turned out the lights and curled up in bed. the window let in a bright shine of moonlight. you had said your goodbyes and there was no turning back.
