The Stranger

Great stories often begin with the arrival of a stranger. Have the stranger make a grand entrance and then take it from there:

He sat at his typewriter in the dark room, waiting for inspiration to hit him. There was a knock, and the door opened, allowing a narrow beam of light into the room. He turned, scowling, ready to berate his butler, but stopped before he was able to say anything. The man standing in the door was not his butler - nor was he any type of servant. He leaned on a gold and black cane, and his top hat nearly touched the door frame.

The man at the typewriter waited for an introduction. When he didn't get one he waved his hand impatiently and shouted, "Well? Who are you?"

The stranger took off his top hat to reveal ages blue eyes and greying sandy hair. "I am the master of this house," he replied, smirking as the colour drained from the other mans face. "And you are?"
