"What are doing?" A gentle voice asked from behind me. I gasped, sharply turning around. My eyes were met with a young boy, about my age. Long, light brown hair, hazel puppy dog eyes and a cute face. From his clothing I could tell he was a high borne.

I averted my gaze, looking down to the floor. "U-uh, nothing." I stuttered, slightly scared.
"Yes you were. I saw you. You do know it isn't very lady like to be kneeling down in the dirt and peeking in bushes."

My hands came together as I bit my lip, shyly.
"I know but..."
"But what?"
"It looked hurt and alone so I wanted to help it." I answered nervously.

The boy raised an eyebrow to me. "What did?"
I knelt down again, motioning for him to do the same. He smiled slightly, obeying. I slowly pulled back the bush to show the boy what I was talking about.

It was a small, pitch black male kitten with vibrant blue eyes, shaking underneath twigs. For the past ten minutes, I'd been trying to comfort it. It must've been abandoned by its mother. Poor little thing.

"I only wanted to help. I promise I wasn't doing anything bad." I said sadly. The boy returned to his feet, holding out his hand to me. "I know my lady." He chuckled as I took his hand, lifting myself up.

"Forgive me my lady, but I do not know your name."
"Oh, my names Y/N. What's yours?" I answered cheerfully with a goofy smile.
"Pri-Sam! My names Sam." He replied quickly.
"You sure about that?" I giggle.

A smirk plastered on his lips. "Yes I'm sure. Pleasure to meet you Lady Y/N." Sam took my hand once again and laid a gentle kiss on the back. I blushed. "Believe me Sam, I am no lady." I sighed.

"Now why would a beautiful girl like you say that?" Sam questioned, generally interested.
"I'm just a common maid. Nothing like a high borne like you, my Lord." I curtsied politely.
"And how do you know I'm a high borne?"

"Your clothes tell me everything I need to know. Apart from one thing."
"And what might that be?"
"Why you're talking to me. I'm just a maid. A high borne should not waste his time talking to me." I gazed to the ground.

Suddenly, my chin was cupped by a finger and thumb, lifting my face upwards. It was Sam. He was very close to me, making my heartbeat speed up in either fright or...something else.

"Who I give time to is up to me, not anybody else. If I want to speak to you then I will. Maid or not, you're still a person. You deserve to be treated with the same respect as anybody else." He spoke softly with a calming manor.

My eyes were trapped in his. The only thing I could focus on was him. A weird feeling curled in my heart. What was going on? I'd never felt this before.

"Thank you Lord Sam. Your words are kind." I whispered. "Please just call me Sam. All my friends do." He said tucking a strand piece of hair behind my ear, admiring my face as he did.

"You consider me a friend?" I said in shock.
"Yes. One of my best. I know I can trust you."
"How?"
"Because you are one of the most beautiful girls I have ever laid eyes one. Plus you have a kind heart. It appears the kitten thinks so too." He chuckled, looking down to my feet.

I followed his gaze to see that the once quivering kitten had now emerged from out of the bushes and was now rubbing it's tiny head against my leg. I must've been so engrossed with Sam that I didn't feel it.

Giggling, I bent down and picked the fragile creature up, resting it in my arms. "Hey there." I tickled under its chin, making it purr. "He seems to of taken a liking to you Y/N. What are you going to call him?" Sam grinned, stroking the kitten.

I thought about it for a moment. "My mother used to tell me stories about an angel with bright blue eyes and black hair, called Castiel. They were always my favourite so I think I'll call the kitten it. What do you think Sam?"

"I think it's perfect." He complimented.
"Maybe Castiel could be both of ours. He likes you too Sammy." I gesture to the kitten that was now rubbing it's head on Sam's arm.

"I would like that very much. He will be our child or something. Only ours though." He proposed. I nodded with a smile. "Wouldn't we have to be married to have children?" I laughed.

Sam thought about it. "Then when we grow up, we'll get married! We'll live in a castle and have our own children and live happily ever after!"
"I'd really like that Sam, I would. But-but maids don't get happily ever afters. Princes and princesses do." I tell him.

Sam's face fell. "I don't care about princes and princesses. I want to marry for love, not because of a title."
"I do too Sam but sometimes things don't happen the way we want them to. You'll go off to marry some rich Lady while I'll be lucky to marry some farmer or blacksmith."

"I don't-I don't want some rich Lady! I want you!" He cried, taking me back with his sudden words. "Out of all the girls I have met, none of them compare to you! You are more down to earth and wonderful than any of them. I'm the Prince for gods sake!"

I gasped. He was the prince?! All this time I'd been in presence of the prince of the castle and not known! How stupid can I be?!

"Y-you're the prince?" I stuttered. Sam-Prince Sam let out a big breath. "Dammit I didn't want you to know." He cussed.
"Forgive me your highness, I should've know."
"Please don't call me that! Just Sam please." He begged.

"Are you sure? I'm supposed-"
"Yes! Just please do."
"As you wish." I muttered, embarrassed.
"I don't want anything to change between us. Can't you just see me as I was before? Where we were just Y/N and Sam? No titles or anything separating us?" He pleaded.

"Yes your high-Sam."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
There was a silence for a moment. Me and Sam just stared at one another, comfortably.

"Prince Sam!" A voice called out.
"Coming!" Sam yelled back. "Sorry my knight is calling out to me. My father must want me so I must go. Can we maybe meet again? I would like to see you and Castiel again." He chuckled.

I nodded shyly. "Same time tomorrow?"
"I'll be here. Until then Y/N, I bid you fair well." He kissed my hand and elegantly walked to his knight.

This felt like the start of something beautiful...
