Daylight

The moon shines through the window,

A light in the dark of the night,

Illuminating your sleeping face.

I take the time to memorize your features,

The scar above your left brow,

The curve of your nose.

Then burying my face in your chest,

I can smell the scent of your forest cologne,

And I relish in the feeling one more time.

I can't sleep knowing this will be the last time,

The last time I'm held in your embrace,

The last moment of there being an us.

For when the daylight comes

I have to go; I'll slip away,

Right out of your fingertips.

We knew that it would come to this,

Our love was toxic,

It was killing the both of us.

Now as the sky brightens,

And the moon fades into the horizon,

The end grows nearer.

A duffel of my things hidden under the bed,

My shoes by the door way,

And the key left on the table by the front door.

Then seeing the sun rise through the window,

I brush away the hair in your eyes,

And look at you for the final time.

Placing a soft delicate kiss on your lips,

I whisper "Goodbye."

And I'm gone with the stars.
