It had been many year since Sally Winchester last saw her brother, John. The last time she saw him was shortly after his wife Mary had died. He had been heartbroken, and left with two small sons to care for. She offered to help him but he simply said 'no' and she never saw him again.
Eight year after her brother became a widow, Sally meet a man named Jackson Ramson. They had quickly fallen in love and soon Sally was expecting a baby. Sadly Jackson died in a car crash four months before the child was even born.
Sally gave birth to Ariel Jacklyn Winchester, on July 15, 1991. Her daughter quickly became the center of her live. She had her father's gold looking eyes, and her long brown hair. Ariel was a happy child, sweet and kind.
Life was happy for the tiny family. But sadly nothing last forever.
On October 31, 1996, John Winchester was in a motel with his two sons, Sam and Dean. The boys were doing homework, and John was looking into a case, when his phone rang.
"Hello?" John asked.
"Are you John Winchester?" a voice asked.
"Yes," he said.
"Is Sally Anna Winchester your sister?"
"Yes," John said starting to wonder what this was about. He hadn't seen or spoken to his sister in years.
"I'm afraid I have some bad news," the voice said, "Your sister has passed away."
John didn't know what to say. Was his sister really gone? It didn't seem possible.
"How?" he asked.
"She was murdered. Her neighbor found her, in her barn." John was quite.
"Mr.Winchester, you are the only family your neica has,"
"Neica?" John asked.
"Yes, your sister had a five year old daughter. Ariel."
John was shocked. For eight year his sister and him had been apart. He thought he had reason. He didn't think he could tell her what he knew.
"Would you like custody of Ariel?" the voice asked. John thought about it for a minute. Carefully, before saying,
"Yes,"
The next morning John and his boys had made it to Wisconsin. In a small town with not a lot about it, that people out of state, cared about. They derived to the small farm that his sister had spent the last ten years of her life on. There was just about every farm animal you could think of there. From a horse to a llama.
When they pulled up to the big white farmhouse. The poacher had a swing and three or four lawn chairs. John looked to the big, red, barn where his sister had been found bloody and died.
"Well it smells like crap," Dean had said getting out of the Impala.
"That's because it's a fram Dean," Sam said looking at the chickens pecking around the front of the garden.
"Side," a voice called, "You get used to it." A tall black haired women stepped outside the house.
"You must be Sally's family. I'm Donna Gates, I live up in Madison. My friend Jackson, was Ariel's father," she said walking over to them.
John shook her hand and she gave him a sad smile.
"I'm sorry for your lost," she said, "Sally was a wonderful person. A good mother too."
They all when inside. It smelled like apple cinnamon pie and old paper. The walls had photos a little girl and her mother as she grew up. It was kind of messy, but in a good way.
They when into the living room. In front of the fireplace was a little girl, with her knees pulled to her chest, and tears staining her face. She looked at the three newcomers, and turned back to the unlit fireplace.
"Poor thing," Donna said, "She saw the whole thing happen. She was covered in Sally blood when they found her. She wouldn't tell the cops anything she saw."
John looked at his nicea. He didn't know what to say, so he didn't. Soon the two adults when into the kitchen to talk about the paperwork. Leaving Sam and Dean with there cousin.
Sam walked over to the little girl, Dean stayed put. Sam sat beside her and just looked at the little cousin he didn't know he had. The daughter of the aunt he had never knew.
"Hi," he said, "I'm Sam and this is Dean."
"Ariel," she muttered, not looking over at the boy.
"That's a pretty name," Sam said.
"Means, lion of God. Daddy was a preacher," she whispered. She was quite.
"I, saw Mommy die." she crock. Sam didn't' know what to say. "He was scary. Looked like Mr.Nox. Our old neighbor. Didn't see me, I hide behind the hay bails. His eyes were all black."
Sam looked to Dean, who just stand there with his mouth open a little. Did a demon kill her aunt? What for?
Later at night the Winchester settled in. Sam had carried his younger cousin up to her room and tucked her in like a pro. The deal was was John was given custody of Ariel, but every other month or so she would come visit her godmother Hazel for a few days, who had agreed to take care of the farm.
Ariel know that her uncle and cousin were to going the morning, but she wasn't too sad. She see Hazel in two months. She asked Sam to stay with her till feel asleep. For some reason she felt safer with Sam.
When she fell asleep he went to the guest room that he was staying. It was a nice room. Nicer than thing Sam was used to.
He went to the door that connected his and Dean's room. When Sam came in Dean looked at his little brother.
"You tell Dad?" Sam asked.
"Yeah," Dean said.
"What he say?"
"Said it was possible."
Sam nodded and when back to his room and closed the door. He throw himself on the bed and tried to fall asleep.
Around midnight he woke up to a little girl in his face. So naturally he was terrified. But then saw it was Ariel.
"I had a bad dream," she said a tear coming from her eye, "can sleep with you?" she asked.
Sam didn't know how to say no, not that he would have. So he scooted over and picked the little girl who snuggled into his chest. And as he laid a protective arm around he wondered, is this what it was like to have a little sister?
