"How are you feeling today, Elizabeth?" Mrs. Kerr asked as she continued to stare at me as if I was going to do something...crazy

"I'm fine" I muttered under my breath as I fiddled with the zipper of my jacket

"That's good to hear..." I almost scoffed at how indifferent she was. Almost

"So, I heard from Jack that you and Gretta had a misunderstanding earlier this morning" she added and crossed her arms over her chest as her eyes scanned my behavior

I grimaced at Gretta's name. To be put simply, the word misunderstanding would've been the understatement of the century...not unless your definition of misunderstanding is breaking a pot filled with hot, boiling tea onto the head of a girl who stole your cookie...

"Mhm" I hummed with my eyes glued on a blue jay bird perched on the window sill. It had very blue feathers, like ocean blue.. Perhaps if a million blue jay birds, say, drop dead suddenly over one large area...But I guess that'd be quite problematic for the people who have to clean it up and look for where to bury the dead birds.. yes, that would be very problematic. On the other hand, it'd spark some interest from scienti-

"Elizabeth.. Elizabeth! Are you even listening to me?" Mrs. Kerr asked and I noticed that she'd reached over the table and was now snapping her fingers in front of me

"Oh,huh?" I asked and sat straight snapping back to reality

"This is what I'm talking about, Elizabeth...You have to make some improvements before summer ends otherwise you won't be able to attend your senior year. Don't you want what's best for you?" she asked and shot me a look of fake concern

'Well apparently, the definition of 'what's best for me' is pretending to be normal so that my father can pay you a large sum for 'curing' me and maintaining an image of perfection so tha my mother can show me off at her snotty dinner parties' I thought in my head as I stared out the windowsill again

"The jay birds gone" I mumbled to myself

Mrs. Kerr gave me a look and shook her head with a sigh

"You may go, Elizabeth. I've arranged an examination for you in 2 weeks to determine whether or not you should be discharged..."

"That's nice. Thank you, Grace" I said politely and gave her a smile before walking out of her office

'Now,where did that little birdie go?'
