Sinking

Do you ever wish the water would consume you? You could fall in and feel the water surround your body. You keep falling until every inch of your skin is covered. Your flat, lifeless hair is given energy. It dances around and above your head. Your limbs feel weightless as you sink to the bottom. You watch the lights skate on the moving water surface.
Take a deep breath.
It's okay. You don't feel pain. You feel oxygen use your nose as a subway tunnel to fill your hungry lungs.
Hold it.
Ten.
Nine.
Eight.
Seven.
Let it out slowly.
Six.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
Too many people don't do things like that often enough. Its relaxing.
Look up. Watch those bubbles. You created them. Aren't they beautiful?
Look next to you. Watch your fingers. Wiggle them, trace the subtle waves you've created. Aren't they beautiful?
Now watch your legs. Watch your feet. You're not a mythical creature. You're human. Remember that.
Go ahead. Kick them, flutter them, separate them, bring them together. Because you can. Aren't they beautiful?
It's time. You can't stay down here forever. Go on.
Push off the bottom.
Let yourself float back to the top.
Gasp.
It's natural to do that. Did you forget you could breathe down there?
The truth is, you can't. Humans can't.
It's time.
Wake up.
