He was covered in blood once again; his hands, his clothes and his nodachi but it didn't ease his internal rage in the slightest.

"Captain's lost it again..." Shachi mumbles quietly to Penguin, watching from the dock as their dark captain enters the submarine.

"Marines, I bet..." Penguin whispers with a nod of his head, the two staring at the hard, iron door contemplating on whether they should try to speak to him or not.

They've been worried about the man for weeks now but they also know that Law isn't one to open up about his emotions so easily.

He only just visited this island after leaving Amazon Lily and he's already killed over 100 marines so far this week, it's a surprise that they haven't sent an admiral after him yet.

He had managed to save Straw Hat Luffy from Marineford but that isn't who he went there for in the first place. He had gone for you.

He wishes he had taken you to that damned place when you had asked him to, when you saw the news about Portgas D. Ace being executed. You had asked Law to take you there because Ace was a good friend of yours and he had saved your life before, you wanted to return the favor so badly.

But Law said it would be a set back and that he wanted to continue onto the new world, when you argued back he had told you that he was the captain and you'll go his route or you can go elsewhere by yourself.

Of course he didn't mean it, he hadn't expected you to go.

When he returned to the submarine to find you were gone, he searched the whole of the Sabaody Archipelago, right up until he saw you fighting on the large screens broadcasting from Marineford.

You made it onto the battleground alone and fought so well, he had really started to believe that you'd make it out alive with your friend. He even planned to go and get you before you got hurt.

And that was when the pain in his chest sparked, he watched as a familiar set of strings sliced right through you. "Doflamingo..." Everything froze for a second and the sounds around him turned to echos before he snapped out of it.

There wasn't much of you left at all for him to save but he still wanted to try. So without hesitation, he gathered up his crew and left the archipelago, going straight to Marineford.

He still tells himself that he should have done it earlier, he'll forever hate himself for making the mistake of leaving it too late...

It was only when the submarine was approaching the battleground that he thought hard about it, finally coming to terms with the facts. You were dead and if you were alive, you had only half an hour left, tops...it has taken him at least 7 hours to get here from Sabaody.

You hadn't survived and neither had your friend, Ace.

Law had let you down horribly and he'll never forget that...

But there was still Luffy, he was alive and he was the brother of your friend. He was close to death himself, you had met him on Sabaody also. At the Human Auction house and you were fond of the boy.

If he couldn't save you or your friend, he had decided that he'd save Luffy at least.

But it hasn't eased any of his pain. The captain slamming the door shut as he enters his quarters, kicking his shoes off then makes his way over to his desk, grabbing a bottle of sake that had been sat waiting for him all day.

He knows that Cora-san wouldn't approve of him mercilessly killing marines like he had been doing today, but those people deserved it.

All Law wanted was a quiet drink in the bar but then a group of marines came in, all of them celebrating the big victory in the war. But that isn't what made him snap, it's what they said about you.
