Prologue

Sarah’s Point Of View

It all started when I was bored out of my mind.

I was staring at my bright laptop screen while sitting on my movable chair in my dimly lit room, my head resting on my white desk.   My eyes were rimmed with red, as I was staring at the screen for around half an hour, having absolutely no idea what to do. It was about a week into the summer holiday, and I had nothing to do. Outrageous.

I finally decided, after a few more minutes of blank staring, to check my Skype contacts list to see if there was anybody online. My right hand lazily reached for my wireless purple mouse. I moved the mouse and the white cursor hovered above the Skype icon. I clicked it, and saw that three people were available. Two friends I talked to sometimes in class, and the other a close friend but in another class, a grade above me. They were Jason Magenta, Salar Sanely and Jenette Maroon.  I created a group call for the four of us, and they answered fairly quickly. Jason, then Tyler then Jenette.

“Hey, what’re you guys doing?” Jason was the first to speak, as usual.

“Reading stuff,” Jenette replied.

“Being grounded,” Salar mumbled.

“Doing secret stuff,” Jason answered himself.

“Being bored to death!” I said sarcastically cheerful.

I then thought of something. All of them played a game called Minecraft. Minecraft is a sandbox construction game created by Mojang. The gameplay involves players interacting with the game world by placing and breaking different types of blocks in a three-dimensional environment. In this environment, the players can build creative structures and artwork. Anyway, Minecraft’s my favorite game, and Jason and Tyler’s too. I don’t know about Jenette, though. But what I definitely know is that she owns the game. So why not, to kill my boredom a little, play a little Minecraft with some good old friends?

“You guys up for playing Minecraft?” I asked.

“Love to, but this story is too good,” Jenette answered,” I can’t believe Zayn cheated on Perry for Harry! What is this!?”

Alright, obviously she would need to get to the end of that. How about the other two, though?

“Why does no one listen to me?” Salar said in annoyed tone,” I told you I’m grounded.”

Oh, yeah. C’mon Jason, I can count on you. Right?

“Yeah, I told you I was doing secret stuff, so I’m a little busy. I sorta agree with Tyler, Sarah. It’s like you’re part deaf.” That was Jason’s answer.

“Right, ok. I’ll just go on an adventure map and play for a little,” I said, to who, I wasn’t really sure.

I downloaded a random map on Minecraft Forums (one of those Minecraft websites) called ‘Real Life Minecraft’. After the download was complete, I extracted the files and dragged the file into my Minecraft worlds folder.

The map was incredibly easily, and not after long, I had gotten to the end. The end of the map was on a huge cloudlike structure high up in the sky. There was a small pillar and on it was a sign which read: You have completed this adventure map! It was extremely easy, wasn’t it? How about challenging yourself to something worthwhile, then? Click the button to the right of this sign if you’re looking forward to something exciting.

To the right of the sign really was a button, a simple small grey stone one. I was about to click it when Jenette screeched, and I think my heart had jumped into my mouth then descended back down into my ribcage. I was so caught up in the map that I had forgotten that I was still on the Skype call with the other three. They were all quiet so no one reminded me that they were actually still there, busy with whatever they were doing.
