It was very late when Uma resurfaced on the Isle's shore. The night was dark and chilly, just like the ocean's water, and every muscle on her body trembled with exhaustion and cold. The Captain's beautiful ball gown was now completely destroyed, with pieces of fabric falling apart on her skirt, which had now been ripped to the length of her knees. Any other girl would've been upset at the ruin of such a beautiful dress, but not Uma. In fact, she couldn't care less about the stupid dress. The only thing she could think of at that moment was the fact that she had been defeated by Mal once again, after working so hard on her perfect plan of revenge. She had failed her crew and failed her friends. And now they would all stay trapped on that forsaken island for eternity. Just like their parents.

Uma dragged her feet through the sand, breathing heavily and trembling with so much violence that it made her vision blurry. She was probably on the verge of hypothermia, but even the risk of getting seriously ill wasn't enough to make her care. She probably deserved it anyway. Captains are supposed to sink with their ships, right? Not that she considered herself deserving of that title anymore. Good captains didn't let their crew down. They were supposed to do everything in their power to ensure the freedom and well-being of their mates, and that's the exact opposite of what Uma did that night.

Unable to stand on her feet any longer, the defeated Captain collapsed down on the sand, lying on her back breathless as she tried hard not to pass out. The stars were shining bright and proud at the sky that night, almost as if to mock her humiliating state. Even the moon was bigger and brighter than normal, shining proudly upon the battle winners, but only bringing a cold and empty feeling to Uma's heart. With a frustrated sigh, the sea witch's daughter sat up on the ground and rested her chin on her knees. All she ever wanted was to be free from that hell hole. To have a chance at a better life, where you don't have to fight for a rotten piece of food or steal to satisfy your most basic needs.

Lifting her head from her knees, Uma raised a hand to touch her mother's magic necklace, which was now completely useless in her hands. She stared at it for a moment, analyzing every detail of the shell that had once retained so much power. That charm, that damned charm was the reason she was stuck on that island like a caged animal. If she wasn't the daughter of Ursula, the wicked sea witch, Uma wouldn't have been in that place. If she was a normal child with a normal mother, she probably would've been living in Auradon, where everyone gets a chance to be happy. It made her shake with anger just to think about what life could've been if it wasn't for her crazy mother and her stupid obsession with power.

In a raging fit, Uma got up from the sand and snatched the chain off her neck, letting out a violent scream as she closed her hand around the object and threw it out into the sea. From the day she put it on her neck, that necklace had only brought Uma grief. It reminded her of how she had been born marked with a sin that wasn't hers, and nothing would ever change that. Her mother's curse would always be engraved in her skin for anyone to see, and even if she'd never done a single bad deed in her life, she would still be a villain just because she was born from one. In the end, there's no escaping who you are.

In one last act of desperation, Uma did something she never thought she would ever do again. She cried. She cried like never before in her life, crouching down on the ground and wrapping her arms around herself as if that would bring her comfort. But Uma wasn't crying because she was sad. She was crying because she was angry and frustrated. All those years of fear and abuse were now finally taking its toll on her, causing the pirate to sob so hard that it left her breathless. Uma didn't allow herself cry at the Isle. Showing weakness on that place was basically a death sentence for someone like her, since a villain kid is supposed to make others cry and never display emotions. But she was exhausted and frustrated, so she wasn't in full control of her body anymore. So, she figured that, as long as nobody saw it, it would be okay to let go of the stone-cold façade for just a second.
