That person is not the one I see in the mirror

Hair wild, shoulders back, hands on hips, so tall

But maybe the picture captures me clearer

None of that exists when I am near her

Somehow she's found a way to make a giant seem small

That person is not the one I see in the mirror

She doesn't like the photo, wishes it would blur

I think it frightens her; I don't want to frighten her at all

But maybe the picture captures me clearer

Every day I look at me in that photo, so unsure

Wondering if that spirit unbound has taken a fall

That person is not the one I see in the mirror

The day I leave her there is a transfer

Of power...I almost want to give her a call

But maybe the picture captures me clearer

I wanted to believe that frozen memory as if it were

A religion or a dream, though now that giant's gone AWOL

That person is not the one I see in the mirror

But maybe the picture captures me clearer

But maybe the picture captures me clearer

Behold the first installment of this collection! I was experimenting with a villanelle sonnet and had a dang good time putting this puzzle together.
