I look up from Dracula as the shop bell rings.

A girl. Leather satchel, perfect white teeth, a baby-blue dress and a bow in her hair to match. Eyes the colour of the sky at midday, perfectly shaped. I could get lost in them.

Hair the colour of toffee, perfectly curled.

It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight.

My eyes travel down her dress, taking everything in.

She is beautiful.

I want to know her name, to know who she is, who she wants to be.

She spoons a few Army & Navy's into a bag, licking the seal to make sure it sticks.

I am almost certain I am drooling down my chin.

The girl comes over to me, smiling.

(at school)

'So what did she say? Tell me what she said!' Matthew says, the cigarette wobbling on his lip as he talks.

'Hello!' I reply.

'She said hello? Hello? Fantastic! Anything else? And do you know her name, where she lives? Isn't she one of those poshies that lives in the mansions, down by the river?'

I nod.

‘ Blimey, if you get close to the likes of her I’ll be beggared!’

I give Matt the finger and cycle home before he pisses me off again.
