I was baking a new recipe pie.
Kevin arrives home from work.
"Something smells amazing."
"Hey, you're home early."
Kevin leans against the doorframe of the dining room.
"Oh, you're killing me."
He enters the kitchen.
"How was your day?"
"Tiring, sweaty, hot, horrible."
Kevin wraps his arms around me.
"Lovely."
He gives me a jewelry box.
"What's this for?"
"What's it for? I need an excuse to give my wife a gift?"
I opened it.
I took the necklace out of the box.
It was a brown necklace that formed a triangle at the bottom of it.
"It's beautiful. Thank you."
"You like it?"
"Yeah. It's really gorgeous."
"May I?"
"Of course."
He clasped the necklace around my neck.
We were sitting at the dining room table and eating.
"This is the best pie I've ever tasted."
"Yeah? It's a new recipe."
"It's so good. So good."
"Thank you."
I stood up from my seat.
"Are you done with this?" I asked.
"Yeah."
I take our plates and the wine back to the kitchen.
"You think I'm done with that?"
"No, I was just... coming to pour you some more."
I walked back into the dining room and poured wine into his wine glass.
"You want to say something, you say it."
"I don't have anything to say."
He looks at me and then points at me.
"You got that look."
I avert my eyes for a few seconds and then focus back on him.
"I don't have any look."
"What do you want from me?"
"Nothing. I don't want anything."
He smashes his wine glass because he was so mad at me for lying to him.
I was cleaning up the glass that was on the floor.
"How many times do you have to hear me say I'm sorry? You won't let it rest. Every moment of everyday you want me to apologize. You make me..."
I get up from off the ground.
"No, it's fine, I promise. It's fine. I'm just gonna go put on some coffee."
I go to walk away but Kevin grabs my throat.
"You think you can walk away from me?"
"No."
