24th Street

By: Carlesha Jones

I want to write about flowers and candy,

But what I'm about to tell you isn't fine and dandy.

Are you ready for the story my mind beholds?

Alright then, I'll tell you. My story is gold.

Down the stairs, to the porch.

The lighter she used was like a lighten torch.

Down the street to an alley...

This sixteen year-old girl's name was Halley.

She told the dealer she needed more,

he said he had a bag laying on the floor.

He told her the price and she knew she couldn't pay,

she had to think of an alternative way.

She did what any addict would do,

she grabbed the bag and flew right through.

He went in his pocket and grabbed a gun,

it was black and shiny, more radiant than the sun.

He held the gun in position as she ran...

As he pulled the trigger, I bet he felt like a man.

It hit her so quickly and she didn't make a sound.

The dealer watched her body as it hit the ground.

Blood swam from her body... God this just wasn't fair!

This could have been avoided if her parents were aware.

Now Halley's only a memory filled with pain.

All that's left is an alley and a blood stain.

Drugs and violence have been hard to defeat.

Please don't let another child be a stain on 24th street.
