Moving away from my family was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make but when I found out that I was actually accepted to USF (university of south Florida ) I was exited not only was I accepted but I was accepted to the medical program I was over the moon but then I realized I would be leaving my family my ,mom and dad were completely supportive they told me
"Mija we came here from Guatemala to give you a better life we will miss you but you need to follow your dreams."
As you can probably tell by now my family are immigrants they came to the United States through the boarder while my mom was pregnant with my older sister and worked hard learned English and became citizens.
They did this all so that my siblings and I can have a better life to escape the starvation that our family was going through and the sexism that women have to go through men that only think of them as objects and not a equals it was so hard For then to leave everything my whole family but they did this for us.
I loved my parents so much and moving away from them and my siblings was tough but everyone was supportive of me becoming the first one in my family to go to college and become successful I worked hard and graduated as the valedictorian form my class and won a full ride to USF.
what really helped  me with my decision was my siblings Abdiel and Areli I remember that intervention so well was because it made me realize that I can be selfish some times and think about myself for once not to think that because I was leaving that I was disrespecting my family I was honoring the risk that they took those two weeks they walked in the sandy dry desert walking for miles with no rest and to cross the boarder with no paper with nothing those mouths they slept on the streets until my dad was able to get a job all the hours my dad worked tool he was able to rent a one bed room apartment and to buy diapers for my sister all those threats that people made to call I.C.E to get them deported all for me and my siblings and I was honoring all they have done to be selfish was In a way honoring them
"Hermanita i know its hard for you to think about yourself sometimes because your always worried about how your decisions may affect our family but the reason why our padres went through that boarder and left our family and our country was for us for us to have a better future for us to have a an opportunity to have a future."
And it worked now I stand in front of my dorm with my family behind me helping me take my belongings in my two bedroom dorm I'll be sharing with my roommate I'll be far Away from my family but I'll be fine I'll be honoring my parents and my family, one day I'll be able to be successful and repay them for all they have done for me but for now I'll work hard and make my family proud.
