abella simon loved her best friends. her friends were her rock and they kept her grounded through all the hardships she had faced in her life. they were a family with an unbreakable bond and that's why it didn't come as surprise to anyone to hear that abella had completely flipped out when she heard that after being away for the last half of summer the rest of their crew had completely fallen apart. determined to pick up the pieces and make their first year of high school together memorable and amazing, abella stops at nothing to keep her friends together. however, when rumors, a new girl, and gang violence start showing up abella can't help but wonder if her efforts are just becoming more and more pointless. the young girl finds herself turning to ruby, her #1 best friend, for support and guidance, only to figure out that he's completely infatuated with the newest member of their crew. despite her jealously and disappointment throughout all of those situations, abella swears that she will make her freshman year the best one yet, promising to become the best version of herself. in her head it might've seemed easy but when the curly headed Latino boy you like is drooling over one of your new girlfriends and one of your other best friends joins a gang, you might resort back to some of your old, not so healthy ways.
