Tracy was a little girl.

She found a stray outside her yard.

Though the young pitbull looked scary,

Tracy knew the pup was good.

The animal had so very little fur,

And all of its ribs one could see,

But, Maja, as she called her,

Was as happy as can be.

They played all evening long,

Throw the ball and fetch,

And Tracy enjoyed Maja,

As much as Maja loved her back.

The day after the next,

Her mom told her that Maja,

Was someone else’s pet.

And when the man came to get her,

 Tracy was upset.

Tracy knew the man was bad.

He may wear suits and have that smile,

The one to hide behind,

But Tracy knew the man was bad,

He had that look about him.

She tried her hardest as she cried,

To get her mother to call the animal police,

But no one would listen to a little girl,

With no credence in her pleas.

Still she tried to get the law to listen,

but all that they would say,

was that they need something more,

something more than someone's word.

One month later,

The cops bust the cruel and wicked man,

They finally found the evidence,

Of his hateful crimes,

He ran the worst of fighting rings,

And punished he would be,

That fateful day when Justice,

With her voice of glory sings.

But Maja…

Maja was a dog of a baiting kind,

Beat and torn and scraped,

Maja was malnourished,

 And punished for her escape.

And Tracy was a little girl,

She found a stray outside her yard.

And now the little activist,

Plays with Maja all day long.
