Training, training and more training. That's all you ever did now a-days since the heat of the clone wars was a constant threat. You lived in one of the clone holding bays that orbited the base planet and you had for about five years now. You had watched your favorite clone go from just a soldier to a first lieutenant all the way up to Captain. Specifically Captain Rex. He had been part of the battalion that had saved Your village and the one who had offered aid and a place to stay while it was being rebuilt. You had naturally been friends ever since. You were so happy to see him get promoted, but it was always such a bittersweet feeling. While you knew it was what he wanted, it meant that you would get to spend less and less time with him. It was getting to the point where you never had to ask where he was, it was always either his room or the training floor. You sighed glumly as you heard the familiar sound of a blaster, his blaster. You put on a fake smile and turned the corner entering the training room and leaning on the door frame. He stood there, brown eyes focused and narrowed, strong arms stiff as they held his weapon in place in line with the target. His brow twitched slightly and then he shot, getting the dummy head on, just like always.
"Hey there Captain"
You entered the room fully now and he turned to you with a smile.
"So you heard about it?" Pride filled his chest.
"Of course I heard about it, that's all anyone's been talking about since the ceremony this morning"
You had to chuckle at his childish joy. He had such a passion for his job, it truly inspired you.
"Just because you got promoted doesn't mean you have to train all the time you know.."
He gave you a serious look.
"(Y/N), there are threats around every corner. One day we could be walking around and bam!"
He quickly grabbed your wrist spinning you around so your back was against his wonderfully toned chest, putting an arm over your neck and his blaster to the side of your head.
"What would I do then if I had no training, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I let those clankers take you..."
He spoke softly, his hot breathe tickling your ear. You felt yourself flush but you swallowed down all the butterflies that tried to escape from your stomach and smirked.
"You wouldn't have to save me you know. I can take care of myself~"
You swung an elbow back getting him in the gut then wiggled from his hold, kicking his leg out from under him. Unfortunately you hadn't realized he was still clinging to you, and he pulled you down with him. You both landed with a thud on the floor. You groaned a bit rubbing your head before opening your eyes realizing you were laying right on top of him.
"I-I'm so sorry..! Here let me just get u-"
He interrupted you by gently catching your wrist so you wouldn't leave propping himself up on an elbow.
"I know you can take care of yourself...but the day I met you...I made a promise to always protect you, I can't just break that promise"
You looked between those kind eyes of his as he shifted his hand from your wrist to your cheek, caressing your face.
"Is that...the only reason..?"
You asked this slowly in a bit of a mutter as he felt yourself getting ever closer to his face.
"No...not the only one..."
He muttered back in that husky voice of his. Before either of you knew what was happening, your lips collided in a kiss. At first it was tentative and unsure, but slowly you both gained confidence and engaged in a wonderfully passionate dance that sent fireworks exploding through your veins and love pouring from your heart. It could have lasted forever but unfortunately, air was a human necessity. You pulled back slowly leaving your forehead pressed to his. He wore a goofy smile, his eyes hazy, looking like he was under a spell you had cast on him.
"That was...nice.."
You muttered softly through a smile of your own.
"Very, nice."
He corrected with a slight chuckle. Everything was perfect until you heard whistles and claps coming from the hall. Your eyes widened in fear and you both turned to see the entire battalion standing there watching you.
"Wonderful shot Captain~!"
Shouted fives.
"Looks like the training payed off"
Cody muttered with an amused grin. You both blushes heavily and jumped off each other, you would certainly never hear the end of this. Oh well, at least you knew he returned your feelings. Maybe training days, weren't so bad after all.
