Birds are chirping everywhere. The sky is filled with pink, red, and orange as the sun sets. Beside me, the fields are tinted with a ray pinkish colors. "It is a beautiful day," I think as I lean against the boulder.

As I sit and enjoy the day's end, my phone buzzes. Bzz-Bzz. Bzz-Bzz. The buzzing brings me back into reality. I answer the phone. "Where are you, John?" someone asks me. "Who is this?" I answer back. "I don't have time for this, whenever you grow up, come home." Silence. Whoever called me has hung up.

There is a breeze that makes my bike creak a little. I turn, startled. When I realize that it is just my bike, I face forward again. I notice that the sun is lower in the sky, and I think about heading back. I decide against it, for now, because I am not ready to enter the real world.

I had a fight with my mother. I took my bike and left. I could not have stayed at home any longer. I cannot take the real world. It is just too much sometimes. I begin to think about our disagreement earlier. "John, I know that you like to stay in the house and play games. But, I think it is time for you to get up and do something. Find some friends, learn a hobby, or get a job. Almost anything is better than laying around all summer." Mom said. "I don't want to talk about this right now." I replied. "No, John. Today we will talk about this. Right now, we will talk about this... " The fight went on from there. Hurtful things were said, and that is how I ended up here.

After thinking about the argument between my mother and I, I realized the sun had got even lower in the sky. Within the next few minutes, it would be dark. I look down at my shoes. They are dusty from being here in the wilderness.

The sun is slowly slipping out of view. I sigh, and begin to get on my bike. Darkness slowly drags into the sky, as I ride home.

It is dark now, and I am at least 10 minutes away from being home. The darkness makes me think. It pulls me into reality. The day ends, and night begins. Just like day and night, so does life. At some point, I will have to say goodbye to old things and begin new things. Is this what my mother was talking about? My phone buzzes again, and it is a text from Mom. "I will be waiting up for you. Your dinner is on the counter." I decide to not respond to her text. I will be home soon.

I arrive home. I lean my bike against the side of our house. I walk inside. Mom is sitting on the couch, watching some movie. She doesn't look when I come in. "Mom." I say. "I'm home." She nods her head, and keeps watching the movie. I lean down and give her a hug. "I'm sorry."

As I hug her, I notice that the moon has risen. The night has truly begun. A new beginning is here.
