"Daisy?" "Daisy?! Where are you?" I called as I ran around franticly. Where on earth did my dog go? I've looked everywhere... well, except for one place. This was the farm that belonged to Mr. Jones... a spooky old man who everyone likes to keep their distance from. The last thing I wanted to do was set foot on that creep's property, but Daisy was worth it. I never stopped calling Daisy's name as I climbed over a series of gates that led to the isolated, run down farm. After I got past the gates, I stood at the top of the hill. At the bottom was said farm... and a cute ball of golden fluff with sparkling brown eyes. "There you are, girl!" I said, feeling relieved that I finally found my golden retriever who was also one of my closest friends.
All of a sudden, there was a loud bang. Startled, I jumped. Before I could fully recover from getting the crap scared out of me, more bangs followed, as well as a high pitched yelp. In an instant, I realised what was happening. The yelping was from Daisy and the bangs were gunshots! "Daisy!" I screamed. Not even the gunshots stopped me from rushing down the hill to get to her.
I knelt down by Daisy's side and gasped in terror. Her fur was soaked with blood and there were at least seven gunshot wounds in her side. She wasn't moving at all. For a breif second, my heart stopped. I slowly looked to my right to see a smirking Mr. Jones holding a rifle.
"Oh, I'm sorry, little girl. Was that your dog?" he asked, not showing the slightest bit of regret.
My heart pounded so fast that I thought it was going to explode.
"You monster!!!! How could you do that to my best friend?!?!?!" I cried.
"That filthy animal was on my property." Jones replied.
"I don't give a shit! She wasn't doing anything wrong!" I yelled. Hot tears began to rush down my red face.
"Quit you're cryin', little girl." Jones barked.
"Fuck you!" I retorted.
"Watch your language, Missy, or you'll end up like your dog."
The overwhelming rage and sadness was blocking any logical thoughts that were going through my mind. "You don't have the guts." I growled, narrowing my eyes.
Jones raised an eyebrow. "Don't I?" He aimed his rifle at me.
Jones began to pull the trigger. I immediately regretted what I said as my life flashed before my eyes.
...Nothing happened.
"Shit! I'm out of bullets!" Jones cursed. "I'm going to get more. When I get back, you better be gone or I'll splatter your brains all over the place." And with that, he walked away.
I sobbed and hugged Daisy's lifeless body, not caring about the blood getting on my hands and shirt.
"I love you, Daisy." I whispered.
I felt like pure shit for running away from her, but I did it because I now knew that Jones did in fact have the guts to shoot a 14 year old girl.
I didn't stop running until I arrived home.
I made an extremely loud entrance by bursting through the door and slamming it behind me with as much force as I could manage.
"Oh my God, Cybil, what happened!?" Jamie asked, rushing up to me. A concerned look was present in his baby blue eyes. He was the first one to catch sight of my tear stained face along with my bloody arms and shirt.
The tears started up again. "D-Daisy's gone!" I managed to say.
"Don't freak out. You'll find her." Jamie said. "She's escaped before and she always comes back, remember?"
"No, she's gone forever!"
"Wha-"
"That bastard Jones shot her!" I wailed.
Jamie's eyes widened in surprise.
Most normal guys whould've started cursing out Jones, asking further questions, or calling the cops.
Jamie wasn't a normal guy.
Without another word, Jamie wrapped his arms around me as I cried into his chest. This resulted in Jamie's shirt getting messy with some of Daisy's blood as well as black smudges from my eyeliner.
Eli and Victoria were very confused when they walked through the door. They weren't as nice as Jamie, so I had to explain the whole story to them.
After that day, I was never the same.
