When people ask why she didn’t date, she would just smirk, and say, ‘I like having people around.’

She was good looking, to say the least, and she knew that. She knew that she wasn’t the prettiest girl in the city, but she also knew that she was good looking enough, tall enough; slim enough to get people to check her out. She would walk on the street, and know exactly who were trying to check her out, and glare at them. She would walk into a new group people; introduce herself to the others, knowing exactly who would be interested in her.

That’s why she was never worried about male attention.

And if she walked around and told her friends how she did get her heartbroken once, nobody would ever believe her.

That’s why she never bothered to explain why she never dated. Not even to herself.

“Hey ky!” A familiar voice came from Kylie’s phone, and she knew immediately that it was kevin. And the thought alone made her wanted to roll her eyes. Kevin had called her three times today. Which part of ‘Just text me will be fine’ did he not understand?

“Oh hey Kevin. What’s up?” Kylie nonchalantly answered while scrolling through tumblr. Boring guys.

“I just got home! Thought maybe we could talk? You know what my family is going on a vacay next week! AND IT’S EUROPE MAN. SICK.”

“Wow that’s amazing dude! Good for you!!” Kylie may get sick of people easily, but she always acted nice and sweet, and that sickened herself sometimes.

“Hey here’s the thing. My parents asked me to bring along a company or something,” God no. Kylie groaned in her mind.

“So I was wondering,” Kevin continued, “if you could come as well. I mean like, my parents would pay for everything so it’d be cool to have an extra vacation right? And it’s like Europe! Not Malibu or yeah. You in?”

Kylie laughed at the last part, vaguely remembering how she complained about her parents bringing her once again to Malibu for summer break trip the fifth time to Kevin.

“So,” Kylie replied, “How long is the trip?”

“About three weeks. Didn’t you always mention about wanting to take a decent picture under the Eiffel Tower? Here’s your chance!”

“Three weeks, hmm,” The thing is, Kylie absolutely love going to Europe. And if she was told that that someone would be offering a free trip to her, she would never think about declining it. Until now.

“Dude, three weeks is a freakin’ long time. And it’s just your parents and you and me? That’s awkward as fuck. And you do know that I’ve got summer plans.” Or, summer plans as in going to the bar and club every day and get drunk like usual days.

“But what’s better to do!? It’s a free trip! And I want you to come with me!” Kevin exclaimed, which made Kylie really want to laugh.

“Hey why don’t you just get a girlfriend or something to go with you?” Kylie stated while looking for some drinks, completely distracted.

There’s about 30 seconds of silence on the phone, which if it was anyone else other than Kylie, would find it weird. Except Kylie, who was completely distracted and didn’t even bother to notice the awkwardness.

“You and I both know I’m fucking single.” Kevin mumbled.

“Go ask Jane or something! She probably would die to go, aha. Hey someone is calling in, argh not again, well so, loveya! Bye!”

Before Kevin could say “Oh, who’s that?” The line was cut. But Kevin knew that it probably was some guy who he couldn’t name, again.

Kevin and Kylie had been friends for 6 years, and for the record, Kevin knew that he probably was one of the friends of Kylie who knew her for the longest. He knew that Kylie didn’t bother to keep friends, and the only reason why Kevin was still a friend of her was because he was the one who stuck around her, all the time.

And in between that six years, Kevin and Kylie had in fact once been friends with benefit. And no matter how badly Kevin wanted to deny that, he was enjoying it. At least, he would think, that made them slightly closer.

He remembered when Kylie first knew him, she was a girl that every absolutely loved. They were in middle school, and Kylie was just one sweet and nice girl, and had a small group of friends. People notice them as a group, and a lot of people know their group as Alicia’s group, seeing she was the queen bee. Kylie wasn’t the famous one back then, or rather, people would refer her as Alicia’s best friend, and Kevin almost laughed at this idea considering no one could picture the non-famous Kylie right now. At that time, Kylie loved keeping close friends, and she was extremely close to Alicia. He remembered Kylie would always tell him that she was having a sleepover at Alicia’s almost every weekend, and would blabber about her all the time. People at class like her, a lot, including Kevin.

Oh the Kylie with eyeglass and braces. She would probably kill Kevin if Kevin showed the pictures of the old her in front of her, let alone posting it on internet.

That’s probably why Kylie never did #ThrowbackThursday. And maybe that’s probably why Kylie never wanted to mention or keep up with her old friends now.

Maybe Kylie wanted to get rid of her past.

He barely even remembered what changed her. For whatever it was, he only knew that Kylie chose not to tell him, and he could never have the courage to ask her about it. He never understood Kylie completely, especially recently. He just found her more… close off, he would like to say. Even as her best friend, he still didn’t know a lot. And he doubted if anyone actually know a lot about her. Kylie just didn’t like to tell everybody things.

And that was also the main reason why Kevin loved being her best friend, because she could keep secret. No matter how distant Kylie felt like, a part of him felt safe having her as a best friend, because she would be there if he really needed her.
