Struck blind by the pure heat and light of Hadestown as he and Eurydice passed by the foundry, Orpheus lost the shield and died by Eurydice's side. His charred body was taken back, and everyone mourned him. Persephone used her best attempt to make him whole again, and his pale skin seemed drawn yet peaceful to the mourners. Hades made Persephone take Orpheus' body with her, sealing him in a glass coffin.
