There's a bitter taste in your mouth as the sun seeps through the blinds and onto your [S/T] face, you peep an eye open to scowl at the light. You much prefer the dark; it's embrace always makes you feel calm and relaxed. Today's the start of a new day and you want to make the most of it, there are things to do and get done.
Peeling back the soft [F/C] covers, you swing your feet to the side to stand up and stretch. The wooden bedside table on the right of you has a clock that blinks once to show you that the time has changed and that it is currently 8: 17, your phone is charging too. Your [E/C] eyes are still heavy with sleep and going back to bed seems really nice right now, but a part of you knows that if you choose to sleep now you'll probably wake up a little after noon. The cold hard floors make your feet feel numb and heavier than they actually are and you decide to do something productive. It's always freezing in the morning, but for some reason it doesn't bother you much anyway.
A knock at your door grabs your attention and you glance at it for a second, "Breakfast is ready! Be there or be square"
Your mother's dry voice says through the wall, you'll get there when you feel up to it. There isn't a rumble in your gut when you think about what she's made for today; you aren't hungry enough to want to eat. Still, you get dressed and are fitted into a black t-shirt and some jeans. Before heading out to go eat with the rest of your family, you stare at the mirror sitting on your dresser-- self-consciously checking to see if you look ugly or bad in said outfit or in general. Not bad, you suppose and turn to head for the door.
The door is swung open before you can put your hand on it however, and in its wake is your little brother. He looks you up and down for a few seconds before wandering back to the kitchen, you aren't too sure why he did that. At least you didn't have to open the door yourself, you walk with the gross morning breath taste in your mouth still and decide to brush after you eat. The room smells like eggs and bacon and you're met with a hungry beast-- oh wait, it's just your brother-- and a plate that (not literally)has your name on it. You take a seat and your mother gives you the same look your brother did.
"You aren't wearing that today"
"Why not? I like it"
"Just eat"
As much as you'd like to sit and argue, the plate of steaming hot eggs and crispy bacon await to be devoured. With a sigh, you take your seat and pick up a fork to begin the most important meal of the day. [B/N] is already done when you bring the bland tasting food to your lips, it surprises you on how fast he's able to scarf everything down like that and still remain skinny. He gets up to put his dishes away and heads back to his room to do what he does best, play Fortnite and talk to strangers. Your mom sips coffee by the counter and stares off into space, it's a habit of hers but holy hell is it weird when eye contact is made.
It doesn't take very long for you to finish up and put your plate in the sink, the sudden clatter of the fork brings your mother back to Earth. She looks out the window before downing the last bit of joe in her cup, before heading out the door to work she turns back to you.
"Your step-dad is taking you two out today, please be nice"
"What? Do I need to go?"
"Yes, spend some time with him please"
"Mom, I'm 24 years old. I'm a grown person"
"Yes but you're still in my house, so you'll abide by my rules"
The logic here is incredibly hard to understand here, but she is your mom. As much as you'd like to say that he will never replace your father, you keep back and nod.
"Hey... I know how you feel about him but, could you do this for me?"
"I'll try"
"[Y/N]"
"Alright, alright. Okay yes, I'll be nice to the guy"
"Don't be like that, you'll have fun"
"I love you too"
As she leaves, you're left to hide out in your room before said guy was to awake and hang out with you and your brother. The conversation makes you want to run and slam the door, but that's childish so you don't. You picture it happening in your head before eventually heading back to go back to bed, you don't feel like doing any housework right now or work in general. The sun has shifted a little and it isn't as bright as it was before, you lay back down on your soft mattress and close your eyes. The urge to rest is strong, but your body's will to keep you awake is stronger.
God damn it
You sit up feeling disappointed and reach to unplug your phone from where it charges to read that you have 4 notifications, mainly texts from people you don't like hanging out with. "Can you hang out today?""Hey uwu""There's something I need to tell you""Babe I'm sorrryyy", you clear all of them. You don't have the energy to want to deal with them and soft foot falls come from down the hall, he's finally awoken. There's this sort of dread that you have whenever he's around you or your mom, there's something that you don't trust about Jared and you aren't too sure about what it is. It might just be that this guy is 50 years old and lives with you and your family.
He peers in your room to see you and offers a warm smile you shoot down with frown.
"Hey kiddo"
"Hello Jared"
"Are you ready to go?"
"... Yeah sure"
"Cool, cool. [B/N]'s just finishing up his 'Fortnite', we'll be out in 5"
"Okay"
Jared awkwardly gets out of the room and you stare at the door frame, the taste of bacon and eggs still in your mouth as you get up to head to the bathroom. You genuinely wonder what lame plans the old man has planned out for today, probably something boring like the museum or the park near the house. Either way, you've been tasked with giving effort to try and bond with the other. Through gritted teeth and toothpaste, you put on your fake face and brace for the impact about what's to come next. You spit out the mint flavored substance before a dark thought enters your mind.
What if something horrible happens?
