That particular morning in London was warm spring weather. Minimal beads of sweat rolled off the individual's back and were absorbed by the bedsheets. The quick movements only suggested one thing. Her hands fumbled at the cloth. He was stoic, as still as a stone. The dog, Toby, was panting in a corner, his tongue occasionally lapping at the water bowl in the corner of the room, watching his owner with the wary yellow eyes that shone through the dark.

Since the beginning of time, nobody knew who the Holmes family were. They all came from a long line of purebloods, originating from the famous Lucas Holmes himself. After graduating Hogwarts, however, nobody ever saw them amongst the Aurors or seated in the ranks of the Wizengamot. No, every descendant of the ancient Holmes family were blood traitors; they found jobs and were educated amongst Muggles. Despite their fraternizing with the enemy, none of them ever caused trouble for the Ministry. What little magic they did to aid them in their jobs was well concealed. They upheld the Statute of Secrecy. People worried little about their personal lives.

When two brothers and a sister were born, they forever changed the reputation the family name wore. Mycroft, a successful government official, was named as a control freak, one that enjoyed power. Sherlock, the world's only consulting detective, a self-proclaimed high-functioning sociopath. And Eurus, the most intelligent being in the world, the woman who murdered her brother's best friend and burned down their family mansion. All anybody knew was that all three siblings exhibited some sort of personality disorder. Nobody expected for any of the three to find somebody to love.

One brother found himself with a daughter to take care of, even though he loved nobody else. He couldn't help it. His sociopathic abilities were overtaken by the way his daughter looked at him, her eyes twinkling. The brother knew that he and his family had his share of enemies, and not enough friends to go around. When she is young, he gives her to a member of the police force, to help keep her identity hidden.

The Ministry originally focused their attention on the mad sister, until an enemy of a brother holds a threat over the magical community's heads.

Secrets have a way of finding their way around London, and for the girl, her last name only attracted attention. Despite his powerful deduction strategies, such a secret was unknown by Jim Moriarty.

Enter Colette "Kit" Holmes, a fourteen-year-old witch at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft.
