I jolt up, as Fuck Da Police by N.W.A blast through the house. "Rio! Turn that off!" I yell at my nine-year-old brother Rio, who decided to blast it through the speakers.

"Shut up Jazzy frick you!" He yells turning it the volume up even louder. I cover my face in the pillow for a few seconds. I sit up and look around my box-filled room. Moving to Holden Heights was the WORSE decision my mother ever could have made. I had to leave behind my friends and my boyfriend.

My mother walks past my room, a box in hand. "Cheer up Jazz. New house, new start." She says, mostly to herself.

My father goes on 'business trips'.  He currently is on one, in Brazil.

Or so he says. I don't believe him, we all know he's cheating on my mom. She just wants it to be perfect, all the time. I think he hits her, but I can't prove it.

But I give her a fake 'Jazzy smile' which usually just makes everything better. "Alright." I say faking sweetness.

She smiles. "Go out. Explore the town.Saca tu trasero afuera. Be back before eight, the Smith's invited us over for dinner tonight." She says and I look at her puzzled. "The Smith's?" I ask her confused. "The neighbors- Rio Malik Brown If you don't put them cookies back!" She yells before walking off with her box labeled; Raianna & Malik.

I stand up and quietly shut the door. Looking around, I see a box labeled Jazzy's clothes.

I dig through the box, pulling out a pair of ripped jeans, and a purple belly shirt that has, a black bunny face on it.

Quietly, I slip on my clothes and my Jordans. I grab 20 dollars, my phone, and headphones, before walking down the stairs. I look around our box-filled soon to be a living room and walk out the door.

Looking down at my phone trying to turn on some music, I bump into someone's chest. "Watch where you're going." A male voice says while another one laughs in the background. I step back and see two boys, my age.

One has hazel eyes and the other has light brown eyes. The share most of the same features, although one of them has short brown curly hair, and the other has long, pitch black dreads.

"Damn. You don't have to be rude," I say offended. Ignoring me, he walks right past me like I'm invisible.

"That's Isiah. My brother. He's an asshole, don't worry about him," The green eyes boy says. "Clearly," I mumble.

He laughs. "I'm Luca." He says offering his hand out. "Jazmine." I say quickly, shaking his hand. "How come I've never seen you before Jazmine?" He asks me and I shrug. "Maybe you have." I say.

"No," he says. " I would have remembered someone as beautiful as you." He finishes and I roll my eyes. "Right. And I would have remembered someone as cheesy as you." I say with a smile. "Hurry up Romeo! I'm not gonna wait for you to flirt with a stupid girl!" Isiah yells. "We gotta go." He says awkwardly gesturing to his brother.

"Yea, OK. See you." I say giving him a smile and walking away. I turn my headphones on, Diamonds by Rihanna starting my playlist. I look around since I'm supposed to be exploring. It's nothing special though, just a small town with some stores and some houses.

Kids ride up and down the streets on bikes and scooters, and I smile a little. In the city, the only thing you see kids doing is stealing from the candy store.

Walking up the sidewalk, I see a small lake. There's a small fountain in the middle of it, I walk up to it and sit down on the edge. Coins fill the bottom of the fountain and I dig in my pocket to find some change. Pulling out 3 nickles, I throw them into the fountain.

"I wish I was back in the city." I say quietly.

It's a nice moment until a dead fish rises to the surface.

"That is disgusting," I say to myself.
