Tamaki sprung excitedly from his seat as he heard the front door open and close softly.

"Kyoya?" he called hopefully.

"Yeah, it's me," came his boyfriend's quiet voice.

Kyoya stepped into the room, little snowflakes caught like crystals in his jet-black hair.

"I'm glad you could come to the mountains on vacation with me," Tamaki said happily, moving over on the couch to make room for Kyoya.

He sat beside Tamaki, removing his glasses and cleaning them on the hem of his shirt as he spoke. "Thank you for inviting me."

"You know you're always welcome!"

Kyoya gave him a gentle smile that made Tamaki's heart leap. He rarely ever smiled around other people, but with him Kyoya smiled and laughed more, and he just seemed more... real. Instead of just a collection of impeccable appearance and unfailing intelligence, he was a real person, and Tamaki loved him.

He loved the Kyoya everyone else saw, but he treasured the part of Kyoya only he ever got to see.

Tamaki leaned into Kyoya lightly, only to jump back. "You're freezing!"

"Well, I was just outside and it is snowing," he said. "That would make sense."

"Don't you sass me. You're going to catch a cold or something," Tamaki chided, throwing a blanket over them both. Kyoya rolled his eyes, but didn't complain. Tamaki tucked his feet up next to him and snuggled up closer to Kyoya's side.

"Why were you outside if it was this cold? It's snowing, at night, in the mountains," Tamaki said, staring into the fire and resting his head on Kyoya's shoulder.

When Kyoya spoke, he could feel his unvoiced laughter vibrating in his chest. "I went for a walk," he said simply. "To clear my head."

"There's always something going on in your head," Tamaki said, shifting so he fit perfectly against Kyoya's side. Kyoya responded by draping one arm lightly over Tamaki's shoulders, his hand resting gently against his back. "I brought you on vacation so you could stop thinking about work."

"True, I suppose, but I wasn't thinking about work this time."

"What else is ever on your mind?"

Kyoya kissed the top of Tamaki's head. "You," he said affectionately. "Who else?"

Tamaki hummed happily for a moment before stifling a yawn. They'd had a long day, and he was tired. And Kyoya had been walking around even more than he had, so he had to be getting tired too.

"Tired?" Kyoya asked him, and Tamaki nodded sleepily against his shoulder. "Go to sleep, then. I'll be right here when you wake up."

"You need to sleep too."

"You're probably right."

Tamaki opened his mouth to say something, but it turned into another yawn. He leaned more against Kyoya and slowly nodded off to sleep. Kyoya smiled into the fire before tossing his glasses lightly onto the table and resting his head on top of Tamaki's. He fell asleep quickly after.

Holding on to one another in the glow of the firelight, they slept on peacefully throughout the night. The snow continued to fall outside, drifting quietly through the cold night air. The wind blew through the trees, rustling the branches and carrying a chill throughout the mountains. The world outside was frozen and cold, but in front of the fire, in the quiet moment they had created for themselves, neither of them could feel anything but warmth.
