"You! Christine Daaé! Concentrate, girl" Madame Giry exclaimed,

"Christine, what is wrong," I whispered to Christine and Christine remained silent, still looking a bit distant. I knew what was wrong, she was mystified about her new musical tutor. She had become a great singer, she didn't tell me much other than that though.

"One two, three four- Serena Giudicelli! Posture! " I quickly straightened my back I tried not to let my mind wander to my best friend's confounding situation. As we finished the number Monsieur Lefevre spoke up and introduced us to the new managers of the opera, Monsieur Andre and Monsieur Firmin,

"Gentlemen, Signora Carlotta Giudicelli, our leading soprano for five seasons now," I smiled and clapped as my sister curtsied to the two men. Your sister and I had always been complete opposites, but we loved each other endlessly regardless of our personality differences. Similarly, my sister's fiance Signor Ubaldo Piangi had become like a close brother to me. He cared for both my sister and I greatly. Carlotta started singing when suddenly the backdrop crashed causing all of us to scream. I watched as Meg Giry jumped up and turned to all the members of the ballet as she spoke softly,

"He's here the Phantom of the Opera,"

"He is with us it's the ghost," I cried out and Meg repeated what she had said louder. The two of us were silenced by the outcry of Monsieur Andre,

"Good heavens will you show a little curtsey,"

"Signora! Are you all right? Buquet! Where is Buquet? He is responsible for this," as if on cue Buquet walked out from the rubble,

"Please monsieur, don't look at me: as God's my witness. I was not at my post. Please, monsieur there's no one there: and if there is, well then, it must be a ghost," Meg and Christine clung to each other and I ran over to them, Monsieur Andre turned to my sister who was clinging on to Ubaldo fearfully,

"I'm sorry Signora, these things do happen,"

"You have been here five minutes, what do you know? Si! These things do happen! For the past three years do happen! Well, until you stop these things happening, this thing does not happen!" I gasped,

"Cara-" I tried to reason wit my sister,

"No-Ubaldo! Serena! Andiamo!" Ubaldo followed her quickly and she looked at me expectantly, I stepped towards the shook my head after a few seconds, I needed this job and I needed to be here,

"Amateurs!" Ubaldo yelled, suddenly I felt a hand wrap around my waist that pulled me into the wings, I tried to scream but nothing came out. I knew who, or, what it was, it was him. I felt the grasp release and I looked down to see a letter in my hand, I sighed as Andre spoke again,

"La Carlotta will be back," I stepped forward,

"I'm sorry Monsieur," I curtsied, "Serena Giudicelli, and are you so sure about that? I have a letter." the stage fell silent as I opened it, "He merely welcomes you to his opera house and commands you to continue to leave Box Five empty for his use. And reminds you that his salary is due," Firmin and Andre laughed until Madame Giry banged her cane,

"Monsieur Lefevre paid him twenty thousand francs a month. Perhaps you can afford more, with the Vicomte de Chagny as your patron," chatter emerged from the chorus but I was still shocked at my experience. I was snapped out of my thoughts by Meg taking my hand,

"Is there an understudy for the role?" Andre asked Madame Giry,

"There is no understudy for the production monsieur the production is new-" Monsieur Reyer responded for her but Meg then cut him off,
