"Mommy! I can't wait until my thirtieth birthday! I'm going to be such a big girl!" This was me, on my seventh birthday. "I know you are, sweetheart." My mother said in her sweet, calming voice she said as she stroked my long, brown hair. "Now, my big seven year old needs to get some sleep, it'll make you one day closer than you are today to becoming 13." "Ok, I love you, mommy." I say as I pull my big comforter a little closer to me. "I love you to, sweetheart." She says as she kisses the top of my head. She gets up, flicks the light switch off, and shuts the door softly behind her.

"Sammy..." my mom starts. "Yeah?" I say, barely looking up from my phone screen. "Your dad and I need to start thinking about what we should get you for your birthday." She says. "But..." I say, now not even glancing at my mom, "my birthday isn't for like another 6 months, right?" "Samantha, your birthday is in a month and a half." She says. "Holy crap!" I say. "Watch your mouth!" She orders. "Mom, crap isn't a curse, you know." I  say sweetly. "Whatever, Sammy, what do you want for your birthday?" "Ummmm..." I say. "I have no idea...hehe." "Well, you need to start thinking or else you'll have a new toothbrush and toothpaste for your present." She says. "Ok" I say as I run up to my room. I wasn't even thinking of my presents at the moment, but I was thinking of one specific thing. My list. I slam my door shut, lock the lock, and look under my bed. I find a shoe box. I pull it out. Perfect, it's still here. My list. This list I have had since my seventh birthday. I made it the night after I turned seven. I swore to myself that I would do ever single one of the tasks on my list before I turned 13. I look at the list. Here's what it says:
- Go rock climbing
- Wear a really short shirt to school
- Go to a cool kids party (wow, I was really desperate when I was seven)
- Have my first kiss
- Eat an entire pizza
- Get an award at school
- Get a guy to like you, somehow
- Have my first coffee
- Get my second piercing
- Go on a huge roller coaster
- Have popular friends.
- Wear makeup to school
- Dye my hair

I read over the list countless times, trying to think of why these tasks. Then I remember, when I was seven, I had no friends. I know people say that they don't have friends when in actuality, they do. But I was that one lonely girl with no friends and nobody to be with. So I promised myself that I was going to be cool, have boys falling at my feet, and my the most popular girl in the entire seventh grade. Well, challenge excepted. I, Sammy Wellson, will make this the most epic month and a half before my birthday ever.
