LET ME GO

Years go by,
years went by.
Still caught in your promises,
still reminiscing your kisses.

Millenia ago,
both of us alone,
the only humans the
earth had borne.
I had that cursed apple
and you deserted me,
scared of all the creatures
I had set free.
They call us
Adam and Eve,
the couple that made them grieve.
You left me but
did not let me go.
Millenia I spent,
millenia in woe.

Thousands of years ago,
you fought a battle,
making a story
that makes hearts rattle.
You saved me
from a devil, they say,
made the ten headed
monster to flay.
Ramayana,
they call this tale,
speaking of the
greatest male.
What was my sin then?
Why leave me when
I'm finally within your ken?
Two sons,
two sons of yours I bore,
two sons,
two sons and a heart so sore.
You left me but
did not let me go.
Millenia I spent,
millenia in woe.

Another infamous time,
another infamous rime.
Born yet again
as Zeus and Hera,
more pain
for another era.
Marriage,
it brought us together.
Then why,
why did you go for her?
My body, my soul,
me,
was it not enough?
Was staying with me
that tough?
Love,
it made me stay,
while you killed me inside
everyday.
You left me but
did not let me go.
Millenia I spent,
millenia in woe.

Three hundred years ago,
fate gave us another go.
You,
a great emperor,
or so they say you were.
Me, a mere courtesan,
dirt in the eyes
of every man.
Walled
before your very eyes,
your father-
too cruel to heed my cries.
Where was the great
Salim?
My love, didn't you hear me scream?
You could've fought,
resisted,
pled.
But no,
you left me dead.

I waited for you in death,
I wait for you in death,
holding my breath.
You had promised.
Promised for living
and for dying,
for laughing and
for crying.
But I'm alone here,
waiting for you.
Waiting for you
to get your promises through.
You left me but
did not set me free.
You left me but
did not let me go.
Years I spent crying,
years in woe.

Today,
we are two people,
who met by chance.
Hurting each other since
the very first glance.
You left me alone,
crying,
trying.
Trying to make it better
someway,
trying to forget you,
everyday.
But you keep coming back,
giving hope,
taking it away.
Thinking that I'd do
whatever you'd say.

No,
I don't want another rerun,
we've had plenty.
Don't you realise it
that we're just not meant to be.
I finally want to be free.
Take this as a lover's plea
and please let me go.
Yes,
I still love you,
for love doesn't die.
But it's time,
to finally say goodbye.
So please let me go,
because I cannot spend
another millennia in woe.
